Should Teresa Morton really come back?

I thought the scenes with the drunken and incapable Teresa embarrasing yesterday, especially when she was sent off in a cab and came back again!  - WHY?  Why didnt her son Dim Daryl go with her in the cab.  Sometimes characters should be left be and not resurrected, without the rest of the family what is she going to do apart from cause trouble which will be boring.

As Peter seems to have reformed perhaps they are going to use her as the example of what alcohol can do to someone and we will see her become very ill.

Maybe .. or maybe they're trying to show us that strangers can, at times, be kinder than relations?  Ken & Deirdre haven't really handled Peter's drink problem very well and the way Darryl shoved his mother out of the kebab shop was disgraceful.  Had she behaved like that towards him she would have been branded a terrible mother.     I suppose it's easier sometimes to be more accepting if you're a step removed (as Amber is).

I love Teresa though. She's a real throwback to an old style Corrie character and I think she will win people over if they start to show her getting her life together. The actress who plays her is fantastic and has created a true soap monster in her. I cringe every time Teresa says or does something awful and she plays it wonderfully. I'd sooner have ten Teersa's than some bland don't really do much characters.

Well okay, not ten. One is more than enough! And let's face it, while there's a chance she might punch Eddie Wiindass one, she's well worth keeping around!Smile

Maybe it's only  the true Corrie fans who appreciate her?

I know what you mean but I think other people's attitude towards her is sometimes just as bad (if not worse) than her own like Ashley's sniffy so superior comment about "some drunk" and her own son shoving her out the door!   Made me laugh when, like the proverbial bad penny she arrived back in the taxi two minutes after they'd set off.

I'd sooner have ten Teersa's than some bland don't really do much characters.

The strange thing is that even when some people do get something to do (like Steve in his recent wedding scenes) they still manage to be extremely dull people.  I don't think it's so much about what they do as how they are and I'm glad Teresa was salvaged along with her son (who from what I can recall was the only Moreton originally destined to remain).  Hopefully Amber can encourage Darryl to develop a more sympathetic attitude to his mother instead of dismissing her as the embarrassing relative.  Shame on the lad!   Would be nice to see her turn her life around though and who knows with Amber's help she might?

Although judging by tonight's episode I have a feeling Amber and her family will soon tire of Teresa (just as her own family have) if she can't/won't do something to help herself.

IIRC Darryl was opriginally going to be written out along with the rest of his clan and was then given a reprieve. I'd read elsewhere that he is best pals with Jack P Shepherd and wondered if some cavnassing on his behalf had gone on behind the scenes but as pleased when it was announced he would be staying on. Apart from his imabilty to wear a pair of trousers without them hovering around his backside, I think he's a good character to have around. Remember, Darryl, david, Graeme etc are the Ashley, Kevin and Steve's of tomorrow. I'm just waiting to see now how Amber is gointg to somehow not end up going off to Uni. :-)

Those of you who are showing sympathy for 'the drunk' have obviously never had to try and cope with someone like this - remember how Peggy was pushed to the limit with Phil in EE.

But that's EE. Misery is the order of the day, for the characters and for anyone daft enough to watch it. :-)

I'd love to see an interview with the actress playing Teresa, just to be able to see how much 'acting' is going on. I have fond imaginings that she's' freighfully porsh' and not at all like the character she's playing.

Graeme is in Ashley's mould, Darryl in Kevin's mould but I can't really see David as being in the same mould as Steve - he just isn't dull enough.  Smile

I just hope Darryl & Amber don't break up because of Teresa.  Maybe that's what Dev's hoping with his conditions?

Quite right.  Eastenders is a different kettle of fish altogether.   In fact Peter Barlow is the kind of drunk you'd find on Eastenders - self pitying, self obsessed and a complete misery.  Teresa's more of a happy drunk which makes me think her character might not change but disappear completely because she's less likely to want to change.

Most drunks are like Peter and Teresa is self pitying, self obsessed, miserable and making others equally as miserable.  Happy drunks are normally only happy when socialising but miserable at home.

Well looks as though we'll have to agree to disagree.  I've not seen any of those charactistics in Teresa who, drink aside, is far removed from the brooding Peter Barlow.   And the only one of the Moretons who was miserable was the eldest lass (can't remember her name now but had a face to turn the milk sour).  Darryl isn't miserable about his mum drinking (just embarrassed).  As far Peter, with an oh so judgemental father like Ken to contend with it's no wonder he's turned to drink!
