What would we ideally like to see in S4?
We know that the team behind Primeval read these posts. We know that we are all at least partly responsible for the resurrection of a great show because of the outcry at the cancellation of S4! Which surely gives us all some input in what we'd like to see in the next series?
So, in an ideal world where you can have the actors you want, and the storylines you want, what and who would you choose??
I would love to bring back Nick Cutter (or possibly another version of Nick in the Claudia/Jenny mould) as I really feel the show lost its centre when he left. At the very least, we should shout for a guest appearance over a few episodes! The potential storylines are so fascinating....... imagine Nick and Danny trying to work together? ...... Nick being reunited with a grief-stricken Jenny? ...... Or possibly Claudia?........ Nick dealing with Helen's death and/or the possible reintroduction of Stephen (who maybe didn't die, but was saved by Helen)? ...... the emotional reunion with Connor and Abby..... ! Its almost too good to imagine........ !!
I would also love Primeval to go back to the character-driven, tightly-plotted episodes of S1 and S2, as I felt (like many other fans) that S3 slightly lost its way - great special effects, but not enough heart and soul!
Finally, I'd also love to see all the original team reunited at some point - Nick, Stephen, Claudia, Abby, Connor and also Ryan - maybe in a mega-grand finale at the end of S5? At least that would be perfect closure (if incredibly sad.....)
Love to hear what everybody else wants!

Re: What would we ideally like to see in S4?
woah woah there!!! great ideas but who says it has to end with series 5? just because they signed a contract up to series 5, doesnt mean they cant extend this!
but i have a very bad feeling for the end if they do bring back everyone, heres the evidence:
the only people from series 1 that have not died is Abby and Connor, if we have a mega-finale something has to happen to one of them... nooo!!!!

Didn't necessarily mean that S5 would be "the end" - but there should always be a big series finale, surely?

Re: What would we ideally like to see in S4?
Hey everyone. My first post in ages. It feels good to be back and even better to have Primeval returning for a whole not one but 2 seasons!
Anyways here's my Series 4 thingy!
1. With Quinn trapped in the Pliocene, Abby and Connor are rescued by Sarah and Becker. A new character is introduced; a young woman named Rana Oriana who escaped from a protest in the future after a pack of Dilophosaurs attacked everyone and killed all her friends. The Dilophosaurs find their way into the present Trafalgar square.
2. Danny finds an anomaly that leads him to the Napoleonic era, and discovers the artefact from series 3 being used by Napoleon. A woman comes into the ARC demanding to see Lester. The team must deal with this stranger who has no memory of her past life, but has a striking identical resemblance to Jenny Lewis. Could this be Claudia Brown? The team must wipe out a menagerie of beasts after a spaghetti junction re-opens.
3. An anomaly opens in an aquarium during a killer whale show. A future giant parasitic leech made up of several tentacles kills the killer whale and goes on a rampage through the aquarium, getting bigger as it sucks more blood. Can Becker stop this creature before it escapes?
4. Abby and Connor begin to remember Claudia Brown but still can’t piece together Cutter’s dilemma. Meanwhile, Quinn tries to find out more about the artefact, but is thrown into the ship’s brig, while the artefact opens an anomaly letting in a large group of Elasmosaurus.
5. Sarah comes back from visiting her parents on the countryside only to have her train be flooded and destroyed by an underwater anomaly. She and several others end up being chased through the sewers of the destroyed subway by future amphibians that can control electricity with cilia on their stomachs. Called the future hunter. Can the team save her despite only detecting the anomaly on the news?
6. Quinn finally escapes the Napoleonic era and comes back to the team with the artefact. The team finally regain the technology required to open and close anomalies. But a drastic change Danny made in the past ruptures the space-time continuum, creating “blue” anomalies. These lead to parallel universes and let in very strange creatures. The team deal with their first blue anomaly letting in a giant, blue, very strange, indestructible version of the Gorgonopsid.
7. On London Bridge, A herd of Blue anomaly Diplodocus come through, causing damage across the city and a pack of Blue anomaly Allosaurs follow them. The truth of the anomalies is revealed by Claudia who remembers everything in an epiphany. She and the team start a save Cutter and the world campaign.

Don't get me wrong, but I think that if it all ends in a Series 5 finale, I will be more than happy. Of course I wanted Primeval to come back, but It means we can look forward to a brilliant last episode! :)

Re: What would we ideally like to see in S4?
I loved the idea that some mythical creatures may have come through anomalies! For example, the Loch Ness Monster could be a plesiosaur that traveled through an underwater anomaly, which closed before Nessie could figure out what had even happened. So she's been stranded here ever since. It was brilliant the way the Dracorex was thought to be a dragon. Make this show available to watch in the U.S.A.! Please!

Re: What would we ideally like to see in S4?
I was very disillusioned with the direction of Primeval in S3 and when the cancellation came, although I wrote a few annoyed letters to ITV (on principle, because cancelling was a dumb idea) I thought I was ready to let go of the show. Then we got a reprieve, and I realised I still care about my little dino-show, and I'm looking forward to having a year or so of anticipation. Plus, I've missed hanging out at this place with the gang (hi Ladyhawke!).
And cool - a discussion thread! I LIKE discussion threads. What do I want from S4? Um... [OK - it this point I ended up writing a book on things I wanted to see. This is just Part 1! There's a whole lot more to come at some stage... My apologies to people who hate long posts!]
I'd like Abby and Connor to return to a new timeline, to a world that has changed just enough from the world of S3 that everything and everyone is back in the mix. Sometimes re-set buttons are justified. The obvious 'cheat' that became an important part of show mythology is regeneration in Doctor Who. It was brought in to deal with the loss of William Hartnell, but is now central to how we see the show and each new Doctor is an event.
Primeval set up an important part of its internal mythology at the end of S1 when the timeline changed - Claudia became Jenny, the ARC itself changed. Some of the differences were obvious and others subtle, but the idea is firmly established that Primeval timelines and reality are fluid. I think there were many unsatisfactory aspects to S3 which could be fixed just by embracing this idea. It would help them deal with the lapse in time between S3 and S4 and also with the change in filming location. I want a Primeval world where Helen, Claudia/Jenny (or maybe some other cool sophisticated woman played by Lucy Brown!), Steven and Nick are still around, or at least could be if the actors are willing.
I'd like to see Impossible Pictures re-focus on their strengths - realistic ancient creatures and dinosaurs - and expand on that by utilising Tim Haines' expertise in the subject to introduce more background information about ancient environments and habitats. I think they should step back from the human mythology angle - it's not their strong point (they couldn't even get the basics of Egyptian mythology right when they were filming in the British Museum!) it's unoriginal and been done to death in other sci-fi shows. One of the glorious, unique aspects of Primeval is that it deals in timescapes of 100s of Millions of years instead of putting human culture at the centre of everything.
I don't know too much about CGI so I'm not sure how feasible this is, but I'd like to see IP worry less about creating imaginary creatures (where most of their efforts have been naff) and look at doing ground-breaking stuff in terms of virtual environments - because that would open up more possibilities for us seeing the worlds on the other side of the anomalies. With current CGI and the problem of finding pristine locations, Primeval has a problem showing ancient worlds - there's only so much you can do with the Canary Isles! But if IP could find a cost-effective was of creating CGI environments, and/or cleaning up modern locations through the use of CGI, it would really push the boundaries of what is possible in sci-fi and fantasy, and in period drama. Sanctuary is making a start with this but their CGI folks are amateurs compared with IP.
I'd like to see a theme developing in Primeval about evolution and the fragility of our place on the earth. The dinosaurs were the dominant species for millions of years until their environment turned against them. Now humans are the dominant species, and our environment may be turning against us. Unlike the dinosaurs, we may be able to save ourselves. (And if we had access to anomalies of course we would have more options on how to save ourselves!)
I'd like to see those kind of themes explored as an organic part of the storyline. Helen represents the harsh 'do whatever it takes to mould the future' approach, Nick represented the gentler 'leave it to nature' way (which could end up in awful consequences since nature doesn't care about human beings!). I think the ARC team needs to start developing an intellectual and ethical sense of direction - I'd like to see them having to confront Helen and her POV and think about the immensity and implications of what they are dealing with. I'd like to see the producers revisit their idea of the show in S1 -
when they took pride in the fact Primeval was about real ordinary
people facing extraordinary circumstances. They were realistic characters that fans could relate to, not cartoon super-heroes. Get back to
fast-paced witty dialogue and naturalistic acting by good actors. More intelligence and coherence in the storylines and less
frantic rushing around using up good ideas in a throwaway fashion. The
idea of the devastated future world and the artifact was actually very
intriguing in S3 but the execution was rushed and awful. I want to see Helen's story told from Helen's POV. We need to see Connor maturing and developing. I want to see plot threads like Spaghetti Junction, Claudia/Jenny, and Helen's S1 ability to navigate the anomalies woven into the story instead of discarded.
There's just so much still to do with this show, and S3 wasted its potential because there was nothing at its heart. It was shallow, mindless, and badly executed. They mustn't make the same mistakes again.

Hi Jay95, nice to see you back!
Like you, I was resigned to the cancellation (especially after the disappointments of S3) but found myself drawn back into the idea of possibilities for S4 and S5 - drat this show, it gets under your skin whether you like it or not! And I missed the discussion on the forum too......
Very much agree with what you say, especially as quoted above - you summed up the brilliance of S1 and most of S2 in a nutshell. It was about ordinary people dealing with extraordinary situations, realistic characters portrayed by good actors, with a intelligent, witty script. As such, it appealed to all age-groups making ideal viewing for kids and adults alike. The CGI action was important, but never detracted from the character interaction, which was where S3 went downhill (in some opinions, anyway!)
I would ideally love to see some of the missing original cast back - the heart went out of the show when Dougie left, especially when Lucy followed soon after. Much as I love Abby and Connor, the lack of Nick, Stephen and Claudia/Jenny left a massive hole, and the new characters were under-developed in comparison. I liked Becker, and felt he was a good Ryan replacement, but the others pretty much left me cold, especially Danny. Not sure how much of that was basically the wrong character to be the new leader (and apparently the actor not taking it seriously, which is fairly crucial) and how much was just missing Cutter's leadership, and Dougie's subtlety in the role. The lack of scientific expertise in a team-leader was significant, surely?
Interesting that a good few fans have commented that they hadn't appreciated how important a character Nick Cutter was until he wasn't around anymore.....

Id like to see that :) I think it would be good if they remembered her, so that opened the mystery again. I would hate to see Connor or Abby die, but i have a feeling that if they get together they will kill one of them off :(

Nick and Danny trying to work together so I would love to see that. But if this is not possible, I would love to see some other characters that disappeared/died in the show (this is sci-fi so anything is possible, isn't it?), specially Capt. Ryan and Stephen!

Re: What would we ideally like to see in S4?
I think that Stephen will come back as a clone, because when Nick said 'Please say you didnt do this to Stephen' she didnt deny it she just saidf 'They can never be the original' and Nick's clone gained a concience to tell him to run so...
Also did anyone consider that The Cleaner could be a disfigured clone of Ryan?... I thought they sort of looked similar.
