    Tony Gordon

I know he has to pay for his involvement in Liam's death and I do want him punished for it but I would hate to see him leave. I think he's a brilliant character.

I really like Tony and I actually like him with Maria but Carla is back next week with his guilty secret so I dont think Weatherfield is big enough for both of them!   I find it interesting that Tony was so uber obsessed with Carla and killed Liam because they were having an affair and less than a year later he has happily moved on with somebody else.  Smile

I'm thinking Tony could be one of those men who become absolutely fixated on who ever he decides to love. He takes over, he doesn't want the person out of his sight, he's loving and protective, but very controlling.  If the relationship lasts long enough he will probably start cutting her off from friends and family, not wanting her to have her own interests, always wanting proof and reassurance that she loves him.  He doesn't seem to want friends himself.  He concentrates solely on his obsession (in this case he's decided he'll take over little Liams life as well) and if the obsession escapes he finds a replacement to love (and to own) and continues the pattern.  Maria will be a lot easier to own and control than Carla.  Although her IQ does seem to have increased hugely since she's been going around with Tony.  Remember how she was with Tyrone?.  And she is Kirk's sister.

Such a pity about Tony.  He's so interesting.  I'd take him over botox Carla anyday.

He was probably like that with his first wife, he does seem the obessive type.  She tried to warn Carla what he was like but she didn't believe her.

As ever Herne, you have hit the nail right on the head. I have encountered characters like this, they cannot stand not to be in complete control. Also, as you quite rightly say they like to be the only focus of their loved one's attentions and discourage friendships outside the relationship.

I too would rather have him than Carla, at least he has a personality, albeit that of a bit of a psycho!

    Re: Tony Gordon

The street will not be the same without Mr Gordon (is he definitely going?  boo hoo!  not fair).  I remember the actor when he was in 'Casualty' yonks ago and I had a bit of a thing for him then.  He has a mesmerising quality about him that Liam could never match.  Liam Connor - blegh!  Too pale, too thick, too laddish, too much related to Michelle.

Tony may be an unhinged control freak but, hey, no-one's perfect!

Its a shame Tony couldnt have hung on a bit longer (and Carla not come back) as I think he is a great character and I actually like him with Maria.  By the way where did Maria get that super fast flight.  Its about a five hour flight to Cyprus but in no time she was talking to Tony via a web cam!

    Re: Tony Gordon

Did anyone else think it a bit strange that Tony was rushed to hospital with barely hours to live with such a serious 'heart condition' and then instead of intensive care was left in a room with just Roy Cropper eating his sandwich and hardly a nurse or doctor in sight.   Why was it so difficult to contact Maria or her parents ......Fiz was trying to do it but surely Kirk would be able to contact his own parents more quickly than that.

It's one of those totally silly soap things isn't it - let's disregard all common-sense and go for the unlikely and the improbable.

I also wasn't entirely convinced by Tony's aggression towards Roy - who he had been clinging to and begging 'don't leave me' only half an hour earlier.  Why was he so blummin' nasty to poor old Roy?  I think if I'd been Cropper I'd have told him to bog off.  Badly written scene.

That's the thing about Roy Cropper, he can always rise above things!

May seem a very obvious answer but perhaps as Fiz was ringing their land line they may have been out?

    Re: Tony Gordon

My father died of a massive heart attack at a young age, just like Tony, many years ago.

And no, the scriptwriters have not got it right, for Tony would be in intensive care, heavily medicated - the the extent that he could not speak so coherently to Roy, and certainly a visitor who is not a relative  would not be allowed to sit for such a long period of time by Tony's bedside.

Still, I hope that this has raised awareness of one of the biggest killers in the UK today - heart disease - and that it will prompt everyone to take better care of their diet and lifestyle, as well as convincing those with heart disease in their family to get a check up - I have an ECG and cholesterol check yearly . Also donations to the British Heart Foundation will help those working at the forefront of medicine trying to combat this terrible disease.
