    Hi Garetho

We thought your fish'n'chips looked and (probably) tasted sensational. I was sorry you got put out especially since the judges commented on your "inexperience" versus your opponent's "experience".

In our house we use the "restaurant test", ie would we pay to eat that dish again? In your case I would definitely say yes!

Keep on cooking Gareth your mum and dad will love it especially at Christmas!!!

    Re: britains best dish

I am writing to see if anybody agree's with me.......If you compare this programme to masterchef its absulut rubbish!!! I am a professional chef that sits down on my break to tune into a programme that is badly made and full of foreign dishes(Britains best dish). The people that are on the show cant even cook and don't seem to make an effort, and as for burton-race i cant believe how much he's degraded himself!!! Sorry all its not personal

    Re: britains best dish

"Where are the fantastic English dishes that are so loved by us all?"

Britains Best Dish should consist of dishes from all over Britain........Not just England.  Scotland, Northern Ireland & Wales have some incredible dishes, so please remember that the programme is called Britains Best Dish ...................... not England's best dish!!!

    Thank you please.

    Re: britains best dish

Thanks goodness someone else shares my view!  It is a totally English dominated programme with all the judges being English all the auditions being in England!! What happened to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland???

    Hi

I am on this wednesdays show and have been looking at comments. Its not supposed to be for professional chefs. I agree that the standard of cooking seems to be  inconsistent  depending on whom you are upgainst. I know though like alot of my friends we can cook just as well as professionals and an do make an effort.

    Re: Britains best dish

    I tend to agree.

I watched the programme for the first time today and I would have disqualified all three winners.

The starter  was an indian dish with nothing British about it.

The main course winner made a dry beef stew with a puff pastry top.  This is not a pie.
A pie is completely enclosed and made with shortcrust pastry.  When pies were invented they were a method of stewing meat by enclosing it in a case of shortcrust pastry.  Puff pastry is not a pie pastry as one could not cook a stew in a case made of puff pastry.   Steak Pies should never be dry.

The winner of the 'sweet' of Brownies made a light cake that was nothing like a Brownie.

If a competitor makes a 'classic'  dish it should be what it claims to be and if it is not it should be disqualified no matter how good it  tastes.    If I ask for apple pie in a restaurant and I am served up  with apple pudding  I will send it back.

PS -   I note that fudgie wrote on the 9th of 21- 2007 !   There are only 12 months in the year!
