Re: New-look F1 website - What do you think?

Great new look. It's sleek and stylish and also dark and therefore, easy on the eyes. The red test also contrasts the black and works. There's silver too. Looks a bit like the Mclaren livery, no?

The only thing that requires some serious reconsideration is the way the standout feature works. The way you have to select the story you want and then click the picture is fiddly and tiresome. I'd much rather click the story on the right of the big picture once and for all. Perhaps the big picture can change once you roll your mouse over, instead of when you click it. That way, the picture can exist keeping the good look and it would take one click saving time.

Apart from that (major) flaw, it's very well done! Smile

I really like the new look website, maintaining the same navigational tools, just with a sleak new look. easy to get around and find what i need. i was waiting for a new look to appear seen as its my homepage and the old black and white was getting a bit dull.

Re: New-look F1 website - What do you think?

It looks fine, but functions poorly - links that I have followed (eg news items I've read) don't change colour.

Maybe it's my browser/OS combination (Firefox on Mac OS) but if it is part of the design please change it - give us some indication of which links we've already followed.

    Thanks.

I agree with Pete. For certain a step backwards. Why the black background, it doesn't look cool, and it is a mismatch with everything else ITV.com. Bad direction guys.

    pingwing-mc:

I disagree, its too cluttered and hard to distinguish each section.

Its affectively honda's last car, a big step backwards.

Sorry to be so negative but the black background also makes it really hard to read the red text and removes the old divides between each panel.

I like the old design much more

To the person who mentioned it on the first page - yeah, the F1 Fantasy Game is having the popup with me too where only half of the page shows up. Best thing to do until it's fixed is to copy & paste the URL into a full screen page you already have open. It's what I did.

Re: New-look F1 website - What do you think?

The red text against the dark background needs to be changed ASAP - it is far too harsh on the eyes!

Also, I much prefer how the news stories were layed out on the old site - they were separated into days and it was far clearer to see which news stories you had read.

The new site seems to be generally more cluttered - although I may get used to this over time!

kinda cool, but hard to navigate.  too much contrast, made me go blind. starting to look like the speed tv site, and there's is terrible.

Re: New-look F1 website - What do you think?

ok, i quite like the new look, but three points...

     1. the red article headings are far too bright, i dont mind red on grey/black, but a red more like that used in the Poll bars would be better

    2. speaking of which, the poll should be nearer the top, i didnt see it first time, under the countdown clock maybe.

     3. finally, in the large box at the top which flicks through the 5 items. why is the red text not a link here whereas it is elsewhere on the page? really bugged me.

other than those three points though, i like it, and remains the one of the best for relevant F1 news.

nothing wrong with the old one. Change for the sake of change is the expression which springs to mind.  As someone with a slight colour sight problem, the new one is much more difficult to read than the old site. I would certinly vote for a return to the old site.

Re: New-look F1 website - What do you think?

The initial impression is that it looks pretty slick but once you start to get into it it's just plain annoying. A classic case of style over function.

The red on black is awful after the first 15 seconds and the whole thing is just so cluttered, making it annoying and difficult to navigate. The previous layout had all the benefits of simplicity and navigation was extremely clear as a result, while still looking stylish. I want to come to a site to get the information within - surely that is the most important factor in a site of this type. It is not the same as trying to sell a particular item in a busy marketplace where the wow factor is needed to make it initially stand out from the crowd. While marketing is obviously an important factor for ITV, this is an information site and that is what is most important in order to get repeat traffic, not superficial flashiness.

I agree that some more dynamic expanding menus would improve things and would certainly be an improvement over the dog's breakfast of multipage menus and inconsitent link formats this new page has.

I also agree with everyone else that the poll should be at the top, under the counter, rather than hidden down the bottom. It also seems not to work any more. My browser displays no "radio buttons" for the options nor a "Vote" button.

The issue of resolution is also a problem. The previous site loaded fine but (in my browser at least) this new one now loads with miniature text size and I have to increse the text size to be able to read it. This is one of the very few sites where I have to do this and the annoyance factor is only going to make me less likely to visit.

Finally I think it is admirable of ITV to ask the opinion of the end-user rather than put a new site up and let everyone just deal with it. I just hope that the advice is listened to and we see some changes as a result.

Re: New-look F1 website - What do you think?

Hi,  I've just returned and read the comments about the new look site.  I wrote and complained about it before you even asked as to respond.  Many of the comments repeat my complaints - hard to read and the lack of acknowledging having read an item being the main ones.

How much easier it is to read and write on this white background!

The main reason for my writing again is the poll feature.  I see many are asking for it to be returned to the top.  My only concern about that is that hiding it near the bottom means I don't have to see red every time you leave out a sensible option to choose.  Far too frequently you ask us a question we cannot answer as we readers simply cannot know.  Sometimes it seems they are designed to provoke rival fan hatred.

The older I get the more I realise common sense is anything but common.

Re: New-look F1 website - What do you think?

Yes, I think it looks much better. It has encouraged me to explore more of your content.   This is still the #2 F1 web site I go to (Autosport is #1), but it's a major improvement.  I look forward to seeing if there is any improvement to the content during the season.  thanks.

Re: New-look F1 website - What do you think?

utterly rubbish...it's simply not practical, i had scrool down several times some bigger texts (like j.allen's review on 2008 F1 season) while being careful not to overdo it because the text box is so small

    Lewisfan2:

The new site takes a bit of getting used to.  I tried to sign up to the newsletter, but still not sure if it worked.  This forum is dreadful though.  The moderators are strange - they delete huge chunks of your posts then let others get posted that are very similar to yours, so there's no consistency.  Any criticism of Alonso is censured, but the Hamilton-haters are always out in force and given freedom to slander and abuse.

Somebody once said they were sick of the Hamilton love-in on here - I would say it was more of a Hamilton hate-in.  Considering F1 is so popular at the moment in large part due to the man, I would say the way he's treated in this country and on this website is a bit unfair and ironic.

There are other forums and sites that allow much more freedom and balance.  Now, I wonder how much of this post will be deleted or if all of it will be.

One and a half lines to answer the question which ITV were ate least courteous enough to ask, and the rest ranting about something which has absolutely nothing to do with the topic.

    Get a grip.
