A good writer too. Try reading his 2005 book 'My father and other working-Class heroes'. I read and enjoyed it a couple of years ago though must confess I'd not heard of him at the time.

Not going to break with the consensus on this one.  Gary is a great commentator; witty and dry with his comments, professional throughout.  A colleague at work also rates the book he wrote and I imagine I shall be borrowing it some time shortly... Here's hoping, as one of the other posts mentioned, that we get Gary and the team commentating on the Italian and Spanish tours on itv 4.

Gary´s brilliant - I too remember the old NFL days - he was outstanding for such a young presenter.

I think it´s his wit, the fantastic little one-liners, as well as comprehensive cycling knowledge. Can´t remember, precisely, his quip on Lance Armstrong sitting next to Johann Bruyneel on the plane to Limoges but it made me LOL!!!

    Go Gary!!

Sign me up too. This is the only sport I'm interested in so I'm not really across how others do it but I'll be surprised if anyone can match GI's knowledge and deadpan humour. The team as a whole is ace. How about an ITV4 TdF team fan club too?

I love Gary's clever one-liners that reassure me he and I are on exactly the same wavelength.... the best one was about Lances Japanese Kawabuki mask covering his barely suppressed rage.

That Gary Imlach called me from Atlanta yearrrrs ago when he was doing American Football to straighten me out about something. I still say he was wrong and forgive him, but I still like his sense of humor and one liners. Thinks he can tell an American about gridiron football. The nerve!

I heard you talk about your father Stewert on TV yesterday. It was only then that I put 2 & 2 together and realized that you are his son. Sorry. I was at school with Stephen (St.John`s in Shirley in Croydon) during his time at the Palace and remember well Stewert the scotish international and FA cup winner and I was in the same class as Stephen. I remember him leaving to go to Notts County and followed his move to Everton.

I will be getting hold of a copy of the book in the near future.

Please give my regards to Stephen.

    Count me in!!

I also watched Gary in those far off days of NFL and thought he was a brilliant broadcaster for one (then) so young.

His links on T de F each year are quite outstanding - I particularly look forward to his witty remarks. It´s obvious that, for all his flippancy, when talking about France, French towns and customs, thr riders, teams etc etc - he´s incredibly well informed and thoroughly briefed.

Go Gary, one of the very best.
