You all presume the greatest Welsh person has to be male.
In 1797 at the height of the Napoleonic Wars with France, a small group (1400) of mostly drunken French troops (Half were convicts) landed on a secluded beach outside Fishguard in Dyfed with intentions of moving across south wales and ransacking Bristol before moving north to take Liverpool and Chester.
They were no match for the Welsh women. One Welsh women in particular, who's name has been lost to the passage of history, single handedly rounded up 12 with just a scythe. The rest of the French troops surrendered when what appeared to be hundreds of proffessional British troops in Redcoats and blackhats were advancing towards them. This actually turned out to be the traditional dress of the Welsh Women, who had joined up with local troops to fight off the invaders.
