    Re: The Duchess in Hull

Couldn't agree more! It's not as if she's the perfect shape claiming to be able to get into a size 8 dress. We were shown her in a session with her personal trainer in her mansion, what more do I need to say?

    Re: The Duchess in Hull

Ok that seemed like I agreed with the preceding post. This show didn't portray Hull in a bad light at all. It showed one family in one area of England. People in Hull are too defensive and the people outside of Hull that think this shows what all of Hull is like aren't open minded. FOR INSTANCE!! We hear a statistic like "CCTV contributes to 3% of helping against crime" is based on 2 streets in London and condemn it for being poppycock (or whatever you want to call it) but one family in Hull who have one or two bad habits doesn't show what the entire Hull population are all like. You can't deny that all those guys get on really well as a family because they're all there and they don't hate mum and dad. How often do kids hate their parents because they didn't buy them the right thing one too many times. These people don't have that problem. Kudos to Fergie for not generalizing people in Hull and Boo people that have seen this program in the wrong light. I have to say that she probably wasn't the best choice to do the program though...

    Re: The Duchess in Hull

Just finished watching this programme and I have to say it was brilliant. Far better than spending taxpayers money promoting a west end show. Sarah's final words about how people can change their lifestyle were absolutely spot on. I would so much like to meet her and thank her in person for doing this programme.

And while I'm at it, well done for restoring the News at Ten and especially the "and finally" section. We need humour after watching traumatic news more than anything.

All in all I believe that ITV are fulfilling the public service obligation that the BBC are supposed to fulfill.

    Re: The Duchess in Hull

The Sargersons need to have some facts pointed out to them before the advice from the Duchess. The amount of money spent on cigarettes, tattoos, gold jewelry and alchohol would probably put most hard working families in financial straits-maybe this family need a different sort of lesson.By the way, this is no reflection on the people of Hull, there are families like this all over Britain.

    Re: The Duchess in Hull

This is a message for Sarah. I congratulate you on coming back to the UK and trying to make a difference. I have just finished watching the second part of the show and was so impressed with your honesty and how you communicated with the family. Not once did you judge this family. You promised to help this family and that's exactly what you did. I just wish the press would start saying positive things towards you and stop the negative press. I for one am sick of reading it. And your daughters, what a credit they are to you and so proud of you, you have done a brilliant job. Keep up the good workBig Smile

    Re: The Duchess in Hull

I think it was a terrific programme.  Thought Sarah came across really well - not one bit condescending.  And I have to give all credit to the Sargeson family, they are really trying to alter their way of life and whether you have money or not, that's not always as easy as it appears.  Lots of people get stuck in a rut so badly that in the end they don't realise they can change.  They have realised and seem to be making a really good go of it.  They are all starting to lose weight and attempting to give up the cigarettes albeit slowly.  One thing they do have is a fabulously close family unit and hopefully that will give them the strength to take it one day at a time until they reach their goal.  I wish them all the luck in the world.  Like the Duchess said - little steps can make a big difference.

    Re: The Duchess in Hull

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this programme and I think that the Duchess came across as being very non-judgemental and showed empathy with the family's problems.  They may not be a perfect family, but how many families are - most are dysfunctional in some way or another.  Had a more affluent family been chosen, then families on lower wages would have not thought it possible to change their lifestyle.

I think that the Duchess put herself across very well and, bearing in mind the bad press she has always had, I think she should give herself a well-deserved pat on the back - her daughters are very priveleged to have a mother like her to keep their feet on the ground and they are rightly very proud of her.

    Well done, Sarah!

    Re: The Duchess in Hull

I thought the Duchess of York came over very well. She did not have a set of preconceived ideas and actually listened to the family’s problems. Like she said there was not a magic wand treatment but there would need to be individuals taking small steps in the right direction which the family were falteringly beginning to take.

Good luck to the Sargesons, especially those with the courage to try the changes first and to fail but try again in another small way despite derision or discouragement.

Good luck to Sarah too, I find her more real than the whole royal family put together, and the bitter press are just petty.

Its actually encouraged me to start making small changes myself as I realise that a lot of little plusses will add up over time.

If Mrs Sargeson can throw out her deep fat fryer then I can throw out my biscuit barrel.

Here’s to losing my first pound.Smile

    Re: The Duchess in Hull

what a wonderfull woman i think she is and wish she was our princess now-she was portrayed badly before but the establishment cramped her freedom of speech, now she is her own person and voices herself in the most caring way-and her children looked very well balanced, and a credit to her as a mother.

as far as the prog on hull-i dont think it puts hull itself in a bad light at all.of course not everyone lives the same-the prog mearly used one place as an example of how some people eat, live etc.they could have done the prog on any town or street that people lived on low incomes.

anyone with any feelings would see past thats the prog isnt a slight on hull.remember the family on the prog put themselves up for the show-and i think they came over as lovely people-ok not dripping in  gold, but that was what it was all about.to show you what you can do on a low budget.

    Re: The Duchess in Hull

This program has nothing at all to do with Hull or the people that live there. You can go to any large town or City in Britain and find exactly the same situations people wise. This is purely a public relations exercise for Shara Ferguson.Cut all this crap about the Duchess ,  She only got this title from being married to Prince Andrew and correct me if I am wrong but that ended a long time since. If I leave my job I don't expect people to still call me Sir.Every dog has its day.!!   Please  ITV  lets see more of what you are good at Sports.Drama, Comedy, and leave this dross for some obscure digital channel

    Re: The Duchess in Hull

    I agree.

Also Hull was portrayed really badly from this and now we'll all be tarred by the same brush even more. I bet the UK thinks Hull is just one giant council estate. Contrary to popular belief there are a fair number of literate, well-adjusted, hard working and honest people in this town as there are in any other city. However... I guess that wouldn't make good TV for the big media slobs, would it?

    Re: The Duchess in Hull

We are a busy hardworking family not claiming any benefits who have to pay the full prescription price, we have to think twice about visiting the dentist, and have very little disposable income and have not had the luxury of Heinz beans or Walkers crisps for a very long time.

We are left thinking well who are the silly bu****s here.

The GI Diet is ideal for everyone and is an excellent education tool at no added expense. The last time our nation was healthy was World War II.

Your right, I do admire the Duchess of York for using her status effectively. Your an excellent ambassador and alongside Diana, I have always admired your good nature.

    God Bless
