Re: Which characters would you write out?

The only characters i would get rid of would be Sandy and Lexi but i don't suppose either are written in a way that could make viewers empathise with them so maybe they are just functioning as characters that we aren't meant to like that much. I wish Lee and Mick weren't going, as you said Vader they both had potential. I think its a serious waste of 2 good characters who could easy have stayed on and fit in properly . With this new family we are getting next month it seems as if characters only get to stay if they belong to a big family, all the new characters without much connection get booted out!

Well, Gavin seems to have got rid of a few weaker characters who never really gelled with viewers like Lily, Jake, Mick and Lee (though the latter two, I felt, had potential) but if I was to be bold, I'd give Lexi King, Scarlett Nicholls, Bob Hope, Terry Woods, Brenda and Gennie, Jamie Hope and Sam Dingle the axe. I think this lot are the weaker set of characters, who are dragging the show down a wee bit.

Who would go on your list?

Oh no, keep Sam, but the rest could go along with Alan Turner as he does not have much use these days and I am not fond of Leyla or David.  You also forgot what must be one of the worst performances ever - Sandy.  We now seem to running short of characters so I say bring back:-

Scott, Robert (although he is back in Kingdom) and possibly Zoe as they should stir things up a bit.

Why not have Paddy join with a larger practice to introduce more vets and customers, this would also take it back a bit to the old Emmerdale Farm.

As ITV are running out of money they could always make it Emmerdale meets Heartbeat and combine the two programmes.

One slight problem with that, they are set in different eras.Huh?

    Top of the list:-

Betty.   Horrible old sticky beak.  Who in their right mind would have her in to clean for them.

Cain.   Nasty, greasy, spotty, irk.  Bring on the gangsters looking to kill him, and finish him off.

Andy.  Pathetic little, murdering, wife beating, saddo. Have him top himself, do us all a favour.

Nathan and Maisie.  He is insufferably smug, she is a spoilt little rich girl, and whats with her teeth?

    That'll do for now. Wink

Nathan and Maisie have been cringe inducing lately.

Sandy definitely the bumbling red faced buffoon that serves no useful purpose and should have been left in Bonnie Scotland.

Re: Which characters would you write out?

well get rid of the over-actors, as opposed to the ham actors (thereby keeping Sandy, Alan and Betty - they are real life villagers/characters; every village pub has a Sandy and/or an Alan), so that gets rid of Jake, Marlon,Rodney (even?), Lily and the moronic Wyldes.

Scarlet is lovely, but cannot act, and Carl is terribly wooden, except when his blood is up.

Play to the good characters, the Dingles (except as above), Victoria and the Thomas family (Charlotte Bellamy is a great actress, and yes, I know she will have to come out for a bit because of her real life pregnancy) and Edna as well; I see her in village life every day, too!

Re: Which characters would you write out?

I seem to be in a minority all of my own, as I think that the lad who plays Jake can act and that also they could have made his character worthwhile by writing him into some decent storylines.

IMO the ones I would get rid of are:

Edna - bored with her negative character

Lily - bored with her full stop, don't think she fits in anyway

    Victoria - pointless

The whole Wylde clan - Maisie is vaguely entertaining, Natasha is bearable but no more and I cannot stand Mark/Daniel or Nathan at any price

Scarlett - brings nothing to the table

We do need to have some proper village life characters, hence I don't wish to boot out Sandy/Pearl/Alan/Betty, and I really think that there could be more farming in this, taking it back to it's roots, so perhaps they will achieve that with the new family at Butlers.

    There, that's my twopennoth!

Couldn't agree more about the rural side of it.  Also everyone seems to be disliking the characters that have been in the village for a long time but I feel this reflects the way most villages are as most people live there all there lives.

The new Barton family - all of them. They don`t seem right in Emmerdale.

Rodney has had his time IMO.  His smarming around any woman with a pulse is becoming a bit disarming.  Why does he always wear that shoe lace around his neck?

Patrick Mower's wife gave him it and he never takes it off.

you certainly speak the truth Buttercupgirl! He needs some bromide in his tea methinks, he tries to hit on absolutely every new female in the village, if this is all the writers have for him then why bother keeping him in I wonder??

I agree.  Rodney is sad and embarrassing.
