I agree with beebsy (again), this is the first time I've joined a forum and its really added to my experience of watching the tour.  Are there any good existing forums about pro cycling out there that aren't too geeky, exclusive, tedious etc?  Any thoughts please share, otherwise I'll let this go until next year and just ride my bike.

My ability to post to forums whilst at work has been slightly curtailed of late (damn them!) but I've really enjoyed reading the posts too and knowing after some controversial incident there would be plenty of banter! I'd love to help keep the forum going (IT *** at work permitting) especially if ITV cover some of the other tours. For a sport so huge in popularity I seldom find anyone I can really chat to about it!

Couldn't we make this site the site of your dreams? I love learning about the technical aspects but I will hold my hands up and say I could learn more. I think honestly, I would be a bit intimidated to wander onto a dedicated cycling site. I wouldn't say a word.

Won't ITV4 close this forum down soon?

Re: What are we going to do next week?

They didn't close it after last year's race, in fact, many of us are still here from last year!

I agree with beebsy too (who gets the award for most agreed with forum member)...I've been watching cycling for years but I'm no bike technician and would be intimidated by clever folks talking, well, too technically...Confused

Saying that, I like this forum as it's a good mix of opinion and facts and there's always stuff to learn, albeit not in a stuffy, "what, you didn't know that!" kind of way...

Since last year!  What do you guys talk about in the depths of winter?  Anyway, had a quick google and found the Bikeradar forum which has dedicated forums for newbies - of which I count myself - as well as more techie stuff, and it looks okay, certainly well peopled, although I did stumble across a thread ten pages long about a bloke who got hit by a stone flicked up by a car wheel!?!  Seemed to produce a lot of debate.  Anyway, I kinda like the low numbers vibe here though, starting to recognise names and writing styles and opinions so I'll see.

Re: What are we going to do next week?

Well to be honest, it does go into hibernation for the winter but I don't suppose there's any reason why it should.

This amount of discussion and questions about cycling is about right for me. I just can't bring myself to go to a forum that's too intense. I mean... it's not much but I quite like the bit of life that I do have! Big Smile

It does look like the few that we had here have already diminished a bit but if there were more coverage all year round (hint, hint) maybe it would build up a bit.

I'll stick around and keep checking in - like you, I like recognising people already. Aside from that, I spend enough time on my Coronation St forum already. No. I'm not joking - Corrie is very important to a girl. Wink

Re: What are we going to do next week?

I'm not talking about Corri in the depths of winter - or any time, sorry, but looking at another thread it does look like ITV4 are quite happy to let this forum continue, so I'll dip in and out as the fancy takes me.

Re: What are we going to do next week?

Channel 4 used to do a Christmas highlights programme.... see You Tube for a clip of '89 show... complete with Phil in a Alan Partridge jumper... in his front room (Christmas Tree and mulled wine included)!

Already looking forward to Le Tour 2010.... hopefully with British Team invited as well.....

Expect Cavendish to be up there for green again (although don't expect such a win ratio next year)... and if Bradley can have a trouble free build up to next year's race he may get onto the podium next time.... would be great if he got a stage win as well...

I'm already planning to go to Rotterdam for the Grand Depart... and fancy a couple of Alpine stages.... with a trip to Paris to see some Brits on the podium!

That first overall victory is coming...... starting to feel more when than if now....

Also, will be interesting to see how a certain Mr Roche develops over next 12 months..... a very solid Tour, and so nearly got a stage win.

Re: What are we going to do next week?

I have GOT to find that clip! I don't remember that at all.

We haven't talked about Nico Roche at all but 23rd in his first Tour is very impressive and yes, I absolutely agree that he is one to watch.

As I type this, Norris from Corrie is staring at me from a banner on the right. Sorry folks, I should never have mentioned it. Big Smile
