And what about when Paul starts his sentences with the same phrase as Phil's just finished his, but with a differently emphasised verb... ok, sounds complicated but here's a made up example:

 Phil: Well Contador, what can you say ? This Spanish rider has left the other GC contenders gasping for breath and out of ideas on this mountain.

Paul: That's right, he HAS left them out of ideas on this mountain...

See what I mean ? 

Paul hasn't done it properly for a couple of days, but earlier in the tour you'd have got 3 instances per programme.  Recommend 2 points per instance.

BTW P&P, in the unlikely event of you reading this, you are the best commentators on any sport I follow (yes, better than TMS on R4) and this is all in affectionate fun :0)

We had "He's turned himself inside out' twice at the end today in reference to Wiggo!!  Classic and made me chuckle remembering this thread!

All superb suggestions. I wondered if Phil'n'Paul had read this as well; a few days ago Paul asked if Phil would be using one of his "famous phrases" (and one I'd overlooked): "dancing on the pedals", which is a great expression, but I don't think I heard him use it after all - 10 points... no actually, make that 100, seeing as there's generally not much cause for that on the last stage into Paris. (Last stage, boo hoo!!)

Other suggestions: Paul's bizarrely Star Trek-inspired: "Bridge to Engine Room - more power! But there is no more power!" - 25 points.

And in a similar vein, Paul's: "Boom! Out go the lights!" - 20 points with an additional 5 points for every time he says "Boom!" (twice the other day, maybe for the younger kids who like Basil Brush??).

But of course, we wouldn't have anyone else take their place...

Only just started on the Champs-Élysées and I have heard it three times already. 

The headline on today's (Sunday) home page wraps up the entire outlook of ITV's coverage, Britain, Cavendish, Britain, Schleck, Wiggins, Schleck, Britain, Schleck, Britain, and, oh yes, a bit Contador and Armstrong, and Britain. If Cavendish tries to hog the limelight by winning today, he should be ashamed of himself. It is Contador's day and Cavendish should know 'the rules' about the last day when the winner isn't in doubt.

I've never watched their coverage before so P&P were a surprise to me - constantly making gaffes or filling in time with endless factoids about lavender. But some things amused me such as - being unable to translate 'lavandes de provence' after a ten minute spiel about how many tonnes it takes to make a litre of eau de cologne (or something)...T

Terrible pronounciation - Phil (or was it Paul) had particular difficulty with Societe..plus the classic: "This 12th Century chateau / castle / fort has been here since the err....12th Century". And yes, mixing up the cyclists names with their fathers/ brothers etc.

Oh and the priceless [shot of small plane] P: "That must be providing our link shots" P: No, its the fire plane" !! But apart from the drivel, gaffes, constant ad breaks, enjoyed the coverage (love Gary Imlach's sarky comments) amazing race, well done Cav and Wiggo, the last two days were unbelievably exciting. Vive le Tour!!.

This is really funny and once you start, it's hard to stop spotting them. I always listen out for:

And he's cracked! **** has cracked!"

But there are so many...

 Off topic a bit but I just have to pick up on David's comments above re Cavendish "hogging the limelight". I'm sorry - that's just rubbish. Is Cavendish just not supposed to go for a win on a stage he can win? A professional sportsman is just supposed to not compete because it's "Contador's day"? What is this? It is completely naive to expect a man who knows he can win, not to compete. Especially an athlete as driven as a professional bike rider.

 The final stage generally finishes with a mass sprint, with few exceptions. And yet Cav is not supposed to compete - you are letting your anti-British bias get in the way of your judgement here. You truly cannot be shocked that British media cover the success of British athletes? Hmmm... Americans never do that, do they?
