    Re: ITV Player Problems

    djgm1974:

I'm having pretty much the same problems. The ITV.com Player is refusing to believe that Flash Player is installed in IE. This is even though my Add/Remove Programs list says otherwise, and the fact that Flash Player works fine with other popular video viewing websites such as YouTube and Google Video.

BTW also ... I don't know what on earth kind of forum software this site is using,

but it's not a patch on the more popular one such as phpBB or vBulletin . . .

Ditto & ditto... has anyone come up with anything vaguely resembling a solution to this '(supposedly) missing flash' problem?

    Re: ITV Player Problems

Pleased to say I have today been able to use all functions of ITV.com

The cure is #1   Upgrade to Windows Media 11 or to Windows Vista

#2    Install security component upgrade by visiting the following Microsoft Web Site:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=75378       If you have problems at this point you will be asked to verify ActiveX functionality and to download this if you do not already have it installed.

The above worked fine for me, hope it does for you all.

In case it does'nt there is a help line which is http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/

    ITV Ed,

I have tried emailing them but get an answer that says they cannot help only with board comments, so here is a post.

My O/S is Vista basic. the player loads after buffering then has a text under the player that says the name of the programme followed by (Clickable advert) the player eventually gets a picture of the best of ITV but nothing happens.

I would so love to be able to use this player

Incidentally the BBC iplayer works fine.

    Re: ITV Player Problems

I have just tried to set up ITV catch-up and all i get is a black box.  No buttons on it or anything.  I have uninstalled the flash player/ media player and re-installed them, I have updated all my drivers and applications.  I even tried disabling my fire wall, no luck at all.  I still get a black box to the right of the screen.

Has anyone got any concrete solution to fixing this?

    Re: ITV Player Problems

Just tried to play catch up video for first time. No joy. Message at foot of page says "java script: void(0)".

Page and cursor freezes for several seconds before re-setting and message "error on page" shows. I can then use cursor again.

I have downloaded video content from BBC, Sky, 4oD, and lots of other sites without problems.

My modern laptop runs on Vista Basic, has the latest Media Player version and latest Adobe Flash.

Found ITV Help List useless for anything but the basics, so thought I'd try this forum.

It seems to me from the many messages posted that the ITV set-up needs a complete re-vamp by someone who knows what they are doing!!

    Re: ITV Player Problems

i am having same problems, when  click on catch-up,then click on loose women then on play button, nothing happens, sends me to a page called directory listings denied, this virtual directory does not allow content to be listed. with that i am stuck for ways of playing material that have DRM rules. The first thing i see when i click  on play is this video requires a drm enabled player, we have detected that your video player is not currently set up to play this type of content. video player diagnostic page not available.

i have windows xp fully upto date, windows media player 11 updated from 10. i have checked add-ons and the one required is missing RMGetlicence class. other items play on itv.com page (primeval)Angry

    Re: ITV Player Problems

I am having the same problems since they updated the site over the weekend.  It was working one morning and not in the afternoon.

I have mailed ITV but no response.

I would have thought that someone in ITVs IT department would read the Forum but apparently not!!

    Re: ITV Player Problems

It probably won’t be a surprise to anyone but I too am also having severe problems with this STUPID site player!!!

Again all was working fine when it first came out, then......all of a sudden out of the blue it stops. Now I’ve recently installed XP onto my laptop to get rid of vista and the player seems to work on freshly installed copies of the OS, but again after a short while all stops....almost like it’s programmed to do so.

This is really brassing me off and I am appalled at the lack of!!HELP!! from itv.com.

I've tried EVERYTHING the kind people on here have suggested, and it seems to be working for some people, but as I say I have 2 desktops and 2 laptops and all, with a day or two gaps between them have all ceased to be able to play itv.vom videos.

    It's a joke!

    DO SOMETHING ITV!!!

    Re: ITV Player Problems

Hi, I'm also having problems with the ITV Player.

When trying to view the catch-up videos I can hear the feed fine but there is no picture, only a black screen.  I tried downloading to Real Player to see if that made any difference - when I played the feed on that I got the sound and another black screen, this time with sound-wave effect.

The feed/player was working fine up until the end of last week.  So far I've checked Media Player and that's okay and I've also downloaded Adobe Flash again.

Is anyone else having the same problem or can someone suggest anything else I could try to solve the problem.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

    Re: ITV Player Problems

I think i may have found the solution.

    • Once the player should be playing, but is only showing a black screen.
    • Right-Click the player area and select Options, this will bring up a dialog, under the Video Acceleration section, click "Restore Defaults" and then click OK.
    • It will give you a warning that playing streams may be restarted, click OK, and then the Player start playing properly once it has rebuffered.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: ITV Player Problems

I've had the same problem of the black screen for a few weeks. I right clicked then clicked options as you said. Then I  ticked Detect connection speed.  Then clicked plug-ins and video DSP and OK.. It worked for me, so far.

Good luck to everyone else with the same problem.

    Re: ITV Player Problems

I've been running my ITV Player thro' Mozilla Fire - frustrating. So, I loaded MSN home page and watched it through their site - a lot better. Don't know if that's of any help.

Nice to see ITV's on the ball. BBC IPlayer is a lot better............

    Re: ITV Player Problems

Thanks for that, but its still not working! I'm giving up now! I cant be bothered to try anything else, it shouldn't be this trivial to do something so simple!

Cheers guys for all the help!
