God, I really can't believe some of the racist, bigoted crap written on here. Let's be clear about something here: The Spanish fans are no better or worse than any other set of supporters around the globe. I've been to many races over the years and have seen nastiness from several sets of fans, many of whom were not (shock!) even remotely Spanish. There are hundreds of thousands of people at a given race so it stands to reason that there are going to be some great people there along with some complete and utter ***** (insert bad word of your choice). It's simply the luck of the draw who you are next to. Bad behavior at races is not a new thing and references to 'how it used to be' are pointless because this is how it used to be, or at least how it has been for a very long time.
As for references to an 'itv cover-up', well that is just absurd. If there were indeed racist banners at the race and itv chose not to show them in their coverage, then so what? I personally tune in to watch a formula one race, not to see the uglier side of human nature, and have no desire to do so. For years at football matches sound recording has been diverted away from areas where racist or other offensive songs are being sung in order that they are not picked up on the tele, so it's hardly a new policy as far as I can tell. Why give these idiots the attention they crave by broadcasting them to a worldwide audience?
What would you know where you there? Are you calling the other posters liars?

vonlily:i never said we did not feel safe, it was just very very uncomfortable i have been to plenty of tracks with my daughter all over the world barcelona many times but like i said it was a fantastic weekend but the atmosphere just wasnt the same it was quite hostile where we were sitting, you expect a bit of rivialry at any track, but it always usually a friendly atmosphere this was different like i said very uncomfortable and in all the years we have been supporting f.1. this is the first time we have to deal with anything like what happened in barcelona
The problem is too fold.
Firstly, Hamilton is a massive threat to Alonso and Kimi, because of the fact he is better in terms of racecraft.
Throw in the fact he's different in color, and you have all the ingredients of igniting the deeper hate in shallow people.
It's a shame, but that's the bottom line...

In any sport there is going to be abuse thrown and racism etc. Why are people getting their nickers in a twist? I am not saying i support that kind of behaviour , but if you think about it , it could have been a lot worse. I have been to Barcelona many times and the spanish are fantastic people. If you take football which i feel has the most racism in it, why do not people concentrate on that. People a making to much of an issue about this . Lets just race!!

No there isnt!
Why are people getting their nickers in a twist?
Excuse me?
I am not saying i support that kind of behaviour , but if you think about it , it could have been a lot worse.
That means you are!
I have been to Barcelona many times and the spanish are fantastic people.
Really now?
If you take football which i feel has the most racism in it, why do not people concentrate on that.
We do actually!
People a making to much of an issue about this .
Because it is wrong, now what is your point?
Lets just race!!
What Hamilton is doing if his racist bashers would step aside and get lost!

donkeykong:Well, I see a few feathers ruffled! I am against racism in sport etc. But we are humans and you will never get rid of it. So it is best not to give these sorts of people to much time and importance by debating about it in circles. Yes it is wrong and it is acknowledged accordingly. The more people concentrate on racing, the less significant the racist people become.!
Its really funny that all these british people are taking such an interest in the racism issues in other countries when it is so rampant on their own shores. You should probably tidy your own house before telling others to tidy theirs. Just a thought.

hamilton should just not concentrate on the racism and just race, now if he did that with all the pressure he's under and not put anymore pressure on himself then he will do well

Careful, that sounds like you're saying anyone who bashes Hamilton is racist, or did you just mean those bashers whom you judge to be racist ?

Well, we've been there before. Discrimination does not go together with differentiation.

Well, unsurprisingly you've completely misinterpreted the post and I really can't be bothered simplifying it for you any further. Perhaps try reading things through a little more thoroughly in the future though before going off on a tangent.
Oh, and cheers thefastone
