I see its confirmed now. What an absolute joke, but not a funny one! what did he do? nothing! funny how Ferrari dont get any penalty! never mind Kim shoved him off the track!

Yet again the FIA panalise Mclaren, Im disgusted, the best guy won on the day and yet again here we go!

any reason given? no? ah dont worry ... Im sure they can make somthing up if they sit in that room with their glasses of port for long enough

Apparently he didn't allow kimi to fully retake the position, apparently a full car length is not enough. Maybe Hamilton should have stopped when kimi crashed and help him push his car over the finishline!

I do hope McLaren make a complaint to the fia or take them to court if this mistake stands. raikkonen went over the line first with hamilton nicely behind therefore no advantage was gained and does it even matter due to ferrari crashing out anyway.

I think he deserved the penalty

just read what ham said after the race

So I went on the escape route and I understood I had to let him past and I let him past.

But then I got in his tow and he was ducking and diving, left and right, and I did the same and managed to get back to the inside of him.

    Who's sport is this?

It insults my intelligence and the skills of the drivers.

Lewis drove with courage and conviction.

If Kimi is a true world champion maybe he should show his metal and openly criticise  this decision.

Does the FIA offer an independent arbitary body?

I'm disgusted that a sport I love is being ruined.

    FIArrari at work again.

McLaren have the merest suggestion of an infringement and the FIA penalise them. business as usual.

The race before a Ferrari is released in to the path of another vehicle in the pit lane and arne't given a punishment that would change the race result as some people may have seen Massa win? what has changed in 2 weeks?

I am not some blind Hamilton fan, I wanted raikenonen to win, but Hamilton made a fair pass in difficult conditions and deserved it. hamilton had pulled back behind raikenon after he was forced to short cut the corner to avoid a crash with raikenonen in the previous corner. it was fair and square.
But fair and square in the eyes of the ruling body seems to mean: if a ferrari can be made to win, even if it means twisting to laws to do it, it is fair.

How ferrari can take any pride from being current constructor champions by getting the second most points of the teams in the sport? If they win the championship this year by a tight margin they can thank the FIA again. These years will be remembered for the championships that "legally" belong to Ferrari but "morally" belong to Mclaren.

I think this is as far as I go with F1, I am getting rather bored and there are plenty of other great motorsport championships out there... even if the "next" set of rule changes due next year make the racing more exciting I do think waiting for the race results to be decided after the race or in the courts is a good way to spend my time.

What a shame a great Spa GP has been runied by the people entrusted in running the sport.

I am completely disgusted with the decision of the FIA.

Do we recall that roughly this time last year, they started the court procedings.  I feel its yet again another Mclaren conspiracy.  Is there someone on the FIA that doesnt want Mclaren or even Lewis to win the championship.

I saw no problem with the pass, he gave him back the position before he took him again, is there something in the rule book that says the are not allowed to pass directly after giving back the position?  So now who has gained from this decision, Kimi? hardly!!!!  But Massa, would he really like to win like this????

Re: Hamilton Penalised, Massa Give Win

The decision to overturn Lewis Hamilton's victory today at Spa is an utter disgrace. Yet another nail in the coffin of F1 motorsport as far as I am concerned. The decison to penalise Lewis appears totally unfair. He drove exceptionally hard to catch up with Kimi, he made a brave move to overtake, Kimi forced him wide IMHO. Hamilton then immediately relinquished the advantage he gained over Kimi by cutting the corner. He cut the corner through necessity rather than choice. Having handed the place back to Kimi, he out drove him & nailed first place. He did not cause Kimi to crash, he did so because he does not have the same ability as Lewis in wet weather conditions.

Lewis Hamilton's move on Kimi was very brave indeed. They say fortune favours the brave, well in this case Hamilton has been given a right shafting by the stewards. Yet again, the usual Ferrari bias has prevailed at the expense of McClaren!

It is a travesty to take the victory away from Hamilton in this way, a disgrace to F1. What a farse- Massa now inherits first place, having been comprehensively out driven by Lewis throughout the race. At no point did Massa pose any sort of threat to Lewis. He does not deserve to inherit the win. This decision has destroyed what was initially, a fantastic & exciting race & result.

As a fan of F1, I now intend to express my disgust by boycotting the British Grand Prix in 2009. The decision to strip Lewis of a well earned victory is absolutely disgusting and shameful.

This is the wrong descicion Its spoils the dramatic end of a classic race and will damage F1.

I have seen this senario dozens of times and never seen a penalty given out. Hamilton just didnt gain.

Ferrari dodged a penalty last race where they clearly were in the wrong, now we have the proof F1 is biased towards them.

Whilst I don't like the decision, you can't put blame on Kimi for any of it; it was a standard racing move; Kimi "hung him out to dry" on that chicane!  The simple fact is, it's a terrible decision by the stewards and one that leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Re: Hamilton Penalised, Massa Give Win

Never mind appeals, how do we show the FIA that we've had enough of this rubbish?  They aren't going to care that we don't think it's a sport anymore...the only way is to let the big name sponsors know that their millions are being wasted whilst this debacle continues.  I recommend wriiting to these multinationals and let them know that as long as they are associated with this, their competitors will be getting your business.  Its a long shot but it's about the only thing we have left now that sportsman-like behaviour, fair play, unbiased governance and morales have left Formula 1.
