    Smoking - The big debate

Since the smoking ban came into being in the UK, is it me, or does there seem to be more emphasis on the characters in Corrie smoking?

It seems that in most recent scenes there is a lot of smoking going on.  The cameras even pan over the cigarette counters in The Kabin and Dev's shop.

Smokers on the street are as follows:-

Deirdre, Liz, Steve, Lloyd & Becky to name but a few.

Surely the producers should be giving smoking a "low profile" especially since there are a lot of young viewers who watch the programme with their parents (mine included).  Here I am trying to educate my boys into not smoking when they grow up and yet they see their favourite characters doing it on TV.

It's not just restricted to Coronation Street either.  I know you can't not have smoking in certain situations in the soaps and dramas that are produced, but it just seems that smoking is more common on our screens since the ban came in.

Or, like my question at the beginning, is it just me?

Well it's not just you, but in reality - look around. How many people do you see smoking outside pubs/ workplaces etc. (I'm one of them!). And you cannot stop your children seeing that. It's just one of those things in life.
