Before I start I would like to say I’m the lady who made the ‘size 10 freak’ comment on T&S.
I find it hard to believe that people have had the reaction they have had so I would like to set the record straight as my comments were taken out of context. Heck this is TV they are hardly going to put my balance argument out when they can just go for the sensation of ‘size10 freak’ are they? I mean, I would credit people with a bit of sense when I say that.
First of all – I am FAT
F.A.T – not curvy, not large, not voluptuous but fat and I call myself that!
I know it and I’m not stupid enough to think otherwise.
Secondly – I KNOW it is unhealthy
I’m fat not thick in the head, but if losing weight was that easy then we would all be size 8/10 and the weight loss industry wouldn’t be worth billions of pounds.
I admire people who have lost weight. They are better people than I.
Thirdly - I would LOVE to be a size 10
Of course I would!!
Anyone who says they wouldn’t love to be the ideal weight for their height is deluded whether that is a size 8 or a size 18!!
Fourthly – I don’t sit on my @rse all day eating pies
People who think this are, to put it bluntly, stupid!
Of course I don’t!
I don’t drink very often, I don’t smoke and if I treat myself to a packet of crisps or a chocolate bar EVERY NOW AND AGAIN (no, not everyday people!) Well heck, I can think of worse habits!
I actually eat a lot less than some of my thinner friends and relatives – I’m not going to come off with the whole winging arguments of ‘oh, it’s a medical condition’ or ‘Ooo It’s not my fault I have fat genes’ as I don’t believe in either of those arguments. The simple truth is I haven’t actively tried to lose weight. I have bigger (no pun intended) issues in my life right now and don’t have the time to ‘actively’ lose weight by exercising regularly and eat sensibly. Most of my meals are grabbed on the go and all my exercise is at the park with my active 2 year old daughter (who by the way is NOT overweight at all) which is probably why I’m unable to shift that weight I’m a healthy (full time) working mother who happens to be carrying a bit of weight and not a work-shy fatty who sits at home all day stuffing her face to the Jeremy Kyle show and feeds her kids rubbish food.
To put my comments into context….
What I actually said over the course of the WHOLE conversation was basically this (I can’t remember it word for word but it was 4 months ago):
After you reach size 18 about 80% of the high-street is off limits to you and it’s not fair
I know that it’s unhealthy, against government policy and not ideal but at the end of the day people ARE over size 18 and we shouldn’t be treated at freaks by designers and the high-street.
In an ideal world everyone would all be size 10s but if the average size of a woman is size 16 then I am only just above average whereas size 8’s and 10’s are way below.
We should not be treated as the freaks just because we’re larger, people should stop listening to these size 10 freaks who are way below the average and start designing for ’real’ women because whether it’s right or wrong the country is getting larger and the retailers need to realise they are missing out on nearly half the market out there [referring to the 45% of women are size 16 and above statistic] and if they start making the clothes there is a huge market which will buy them!!
So what i was really saying was that larger ladies are already treated as freaks but maybe it's time to stop listening to the 'size 10 freaks' and try to accomodate larger ladies which seems to have turned in to being on a one woman fatty crusade to rid the world of ‘size 10 freaks’ which could not be furthe from the truth!
Lets face it no matter how you put it society is biased towards the smaller lady - look in any magazine or in any of the big high street brands and you'll see what I mean. 'Fatties' are already paraded around as being freaks of nature - Look at any of the shows such as the 1 Tonne Man, Too fat to Toddle, Celebrity Fat club - At the precise moment I'm typing this there is the biggest loser on TV! Larger people are already paraded on TV as something to ogle at, an exhibition, an object of fun 'Oooo look at the fat person!' Whereas thinner people are seen as something to aspire to - This is how you could look, Oooo look at these clothes, new celebrity diet, look like your favorite star in a week! i know about the pressure to be thin, I've seen it first hand with an anorexic sister. Larger people are already seen as freaks and yet i make one comment and I'm public enemy number one!!
Take a step back instead of jumping to conclusions and complaining about me without even knowing the full story or me as a person. Everyone who knows me knows nothing i said was meant with any malice and to think it was just goes to show how much YOU have judged me without knowing me.
