    Confused about colours

I don't think these colour "types" are accurate and they don't cover everyone.  I have mid blonde hair which really picks up the sun in the summer (it was white until I reached my teens and then gradually darkened.)  My eyes are dark brown with dark rims round them and my eyebrows and lashes are quite dark, too. Skin tone is medium, quite sallow and I tan easily.  I definitely think I look better in cool and clear coloursand particularly look good when I wear colours that contrast near my face, but when I had my colours done ages ago they put me in Brown Summer.  I think I look horrible in brown unless it is a really dark brownand ghastly in beige or grey but these were both in my palette.  I just think it was wrong!  Muddy colours make me look even more sallow.  Anyway - just wondering if I would be mid-tones or clear or what?   And can I really not wear black!  Confused!!!

    Re: Confused about colours

I'm confused about colours too, I have a gaelic complexion (dark hair, blue eyes, pale skin rosy cheeks) I don't know what they mean about cool clear colours! I need a chart or something. I feel ever so silly not knowing what cool colours look like, i thought they were pastals! but that is mid tone :)

I rarely wear black mainly because it makes me look washed out. I've just been wearing the wrong colours, i go for bright colours rather than the cool T &S suggested.

The colour charts don't include my colouring either.  Dark brown hair (almost black), blue eyes.  Complexion isn't really pale/fair but isn't as dark as olive either.

    Re: Confused about colours

Well, I did not see the show but looked at the colour charts on the website and none suit me either. I have light skin, but it has a green undertone. It is the same undertone as olive skin, I guess, but it is not much darker than a Gaelic complexion.  I also have lots of freckles. I  have dark brown hair and brown eyes.

According to Trinny and Susannah, it looks like I should wear warm, dirty colours but that is exactly the opposite of what looks good on me. I look best in bright, clear colours. I always have to add a bit of brightness to all my outfits.  I am one of the small percentage of women who looks good in black, as long as I wear something clear and bright with it, not black head to toe.

    Re: Confused about colours

This show was great to highlight how confused women in particular are when it comes to 'their colours' and how to avoid the safe option of 'black'.

There are different ways of grouping colours togther in palettes or shades and the three Trinny & Susannah allude to are a good way of simplifying things.  I am founder of a Personal Styling business 'Style Our Souls' and we run lots of colour sessions for women (and men for that matter!).

We find that 'having your colours done' dramatically changes the way you shop and put your wardrobe together.  The main thing is it saves you money in the long run, because you avoid those fashion disasters!  We identify if you're 'cool' or 'warm' and then narrow your palette even further to show you if you need bright or soft and light or deep.

I would highly recommend seeking out a professional colour session as a good starting point to revamping yourself or just tweaking your style simply, it will make getting dressed in a morning much easier!!
