john e:Coloured seems to be 'Non PC' at present, any ideas from anyone?
It isn't the terminology deemed
unsuitable by so called 'political correctness' which should be dumped - it's
the whole repulsive cancer of political correctness itself.
'Half-caste' being no longer acceptable,
people were urged to use the term 'mixed race'. Now, for some reason, this
also appears to be too insensitive, a current reference being suggested
- 'dual-heritage'. But don't become too familiar with it because there'll be
another one along in a minute.
And why is there such a strong sense
that those who spend their time torturing themselves over such terminology are
not acting on feedback from the people it describes - their motivation being
less to do with the feelings of those from mixed backgrounds and more to do
with their own relentless obsession with a political agenda?
By the way, john e - your use of the term
'Half-bred', even in the totally inoffensive context in which you clearly used
it, could get you into a whole heap of trouble with the PC brigade. And all
of this throws up an interesting irony, does it not? For, the very movement
which would arrogantly claim to be the standard bearer of sensitivity and fair
play manages to create a powder-keg of resentment where, otherwise, it would not
exist.
Like the use of a certain other word I
can think of - it's fine for Obama to call himself a 'mutt' but be in no doubt,
a non 'dual-heritage' person uses it at their peril.
