I'm very pleased that Joe won I'm a Celebrity, he deserved to. Not least because the man is a heroic figure. He may not have the stamp or bearing of the achitypal hero but he has a hero's mentality. He stands up for the little guy when it is unpopular to do so. Walking in the opposite direction from the crowd is what being a hero is about especially when you are doing it to help someone who has been ostracised by that crowd.
But there is another charcteristsic of Joe's that I admire. It manifested itself in his kissing of George. Joe said that he loved George in a non sexual way and that he was comfortable and confident enough in his sexuality to demonstrate his affection for George. How much a better world this would be if all men could have the confidence to show affection when it is felt.
Joe is a hero in my eyes and he stands for everything I believe in. I think that he has a role to play in helping young men turn away from violence and intimidation and realise that male strength as displayed by Joe can be inspirational and is best used this way. Joe not only shows that strength should be used to help the weak and part of that involves standing up to the crowd mentality that so often manifests itself in bullying but also he shows that a man can be strong and tender even with other men.
Joe, if you read this take the time to consider a role. Would you become President of The Bodist Society. I know it sounds ridiculous to invite you to become its figurehead when it does not even exist yet but you are the personification of the philosophy of Bodism that I am trying to establish and if you would consent to be president of the society I will form in due time then it would be great because you can be a part of the solution to today's crisis of masculinity amongst young men. Joe, you show that there is another way.
