Clive Tyldesley - just very bad.

I have just watched one of the most incredible matches, between Chelsea and Liverpool, ever seen. As a neutral it was just great to WATCH. But to listen to was another matter entirely. Is it just me, or does this bloke with his constant inane drivel spoil it for other people as well?

He is the only commentator for whom I have to consistantly turn off the sound at regular intervals, because he gets me so wound up. Surely, surely there must be better out there. Please ITV give them a chance and get rid of this absolute game spoiler. Thank you.

Apart from confusing Blackburn and Bolton, he was not too bad.

The real problems he has are David Pleat and, last night, Jim Beglin! Neither is gifted when it comes to a command of the English language (or pronouncing the names of players), but, and I might be wrong here, aren't they there as "informed opinion" - to use their years of experience in the game to add to the enjoyment of us "amateurs"?

Even after watching replays from 5 camera angles they seem to have been watching a different game to that broadcast.

One blessing, ITV broadcast the whole game without cutting to adverts instead of the goals!

Re: Clive Tyldesley - just very bad.

As my screen name alleges I am an old retired referee and I am concerned that, despite the F.A. stating that we have lost 20,000 referees this year mainly due to dissent, or worse, your broadcasters appear to belive that it is open house on criticism of the team with the whistle and the flags.

You transmit to a very wide audience and experience has taught me that whatever is heard or seen on television there are those, at grass roots level, who believe they can emulate what the commentry team has stated.

Once a referee leaves the game they very seldom return and who knows to what levels they could have risen had they been given the correct opportunity.

I would appreciate a "toning down" of this type of commentry as all it is showing is total dissent of those officiating in matches.

    Comments would be appreciated

Re: Clive Tyldesley - just very bad.

Mr Tyldesley is a professional and I am sure he reviews his performances after every match. When he looks at his commentary for the Cup Semi-Final between Manu and Everton he will find he has allowed his Manchester United bias to affect his performance. Here are a few examples:

    • He appears to know and refers to the history of Manchester United dating back to their time as Newton Heath FC; the only thing he tells us about Everton is how many of their players played for and won medals with - Manchester United.
    • When Manchester United are on the attack he describes what their forwards are doing; when Everton are on the attack he tells us about what Manchester United defenders are doing.
    • Manchester United United players all have first names which he refers to often. Hence it's 'Rio Ferdinand' and 'Carlos Tevez'; Everton players are only referred to by their last names.
    • During the discussion about the controversial penalty decision he criticised David Moyes for his remark about Mike Riley (the referee) being a Manchester United fan without giving the context which is that Riley has given an unusually high number of penalties to Manchester United, many of them in crucial matches.
No doubt Mr Tyldesley is ITV's first choice commentator for the European Cup semi-final between Arsenal and Manu. If there is no hope he will be able to put aside his obsession with the 'Red Devils' is there a chance ITV will appoint a neutral commentator for this important match?

Re: Clive Tyldesley - just very bad.

... and then there was reference to this match between "two major football cities - Merseyside and Manchester"

What he really meant was "Liverpool and Manchester" - but then that would have been wrong for other reasons! Think ahead!!!

Re: Clive Tyldesley - just very bad.

hi,    Clive Doda is a lot more that bad - he is just useless.      He is not a commentator at all, he is just a not stop rambler of a load of rubbish and trivea which completely ruins the game.    If I want to get a history lesson I will go back to school - all I want from this idiot is to know who has got the ball - not easy for me to see on the small screen. I would love to be in range of his laptop ( his brain ) and have my trusty lump hammer in my hand.    Smashing his laptop would be soul satisfying and I would have to steel myself from not using it on his head.   Please do us all a favour and dispatch him and the pathetic Paddy to the rubbish bin.    Cheers   Ted
