The Bill - New Look - Awful!!

I have followed The Bill right from when it first started - it has changed styles many times but always retaining the basic format which has made it one of the best British dramas of all time. Sorry but I have given this new look Bill a chance and the makers have destroyed it as far as I am concerned - I for one have given up watching it.

I don't want an American style series - there is enough of them and anyway this is British! The picture is dark, jerky and looks as if it has been filmed by some amateur with a cheap camcorder. The soundtrack echoes and the background music is just totally irritating.

The Bill used to have have great storylines, strong characters, good writing, photography and directing - all gone!

I agree, ITV have made a change for the worst, It used to be fast moving and kept me on the edge of my seat.  I used to watch regularly, recording the programme if I had to go out,

ITV have certainly changed it - out of all recognition However after watching four or five editions of the new style I have yet to stay awake  through  whole programme.

All its good for now is a cure for insomnia.

Re: The Bill - New Look - Awful!!

I agree with all that you have posted. The new Bill should be arrested for impersonation of anything claiming to be a relative of any version of the ol' Bill series. All our family have watched it together for many many years, hardly ever missing an episode if we could help it.  The new Bill is a complete and utter sad disaster. It looks cheap, the pace of dialogue is slowed down to such an extent that even a chimpanzee would have time to go to school, learn English and comprehend what is going on. It all sounds like it is pitched at an audience of non-English speakers learing the language.   And the background alledged sound that is impersonating a soundtrack sounds like some guy/gal learning to play the keyboard.  The whole production is a joke, a tradgedy.   After two episodes we surrendered, gave up, begged that they would lock us up. We couldn't take it anymore.  Do they really think the advertisers will continue to invest good money in such a pathetic production?  No way.  I bet advertising contracts will not be renewed.

Moreover, I also bet that foreign TV companies will not be queing up to but it, but will be laughing their heads off.  It's like one of those B movies that is meant to be serious, but ends up being so bad that it becoms a hit.  The actors surely must be worried wondering what on earth are they doing in such a production.  And again, that alledged music....whoever gave the OK for that must be tone deaf.  For us it won't be 'ello, ello 'ello what 'ave we got 'ere then?  We can see very well what we 'ave 'ere then, and it is total rubbish. So, goodbye, goodbye goodbye.

I wont bother to watch the Bill after tonight. I don't like the new format but worse than that I can't stand the background music and can't follow the conversation. Also the cameraman seems drunk and can't stand still in some scenes. Does he have to run after the actors?  I feel I'm on a merry go round and have to look away. Please go back to the drawing boad.

Re: The Bill - New Look - Awful!!

I totally agree.  The new format is a complete disaster.  The way its filmed gives it a grainy feel and the colour looks faded and sometimes the voives are out of sync too.

The existing characters have no personality, you can't even be bothered to love or hate them.  There is no charisma or frission between the personalities and they all seem to be in a coma, where are the characters that made it worth watching week after week?  I find the remaining actors (apart from Smithy - who is hardly in it) completely unbelievable and the sotrylines completely daft.  Because its on once a week you tend to forget what happened the previous week and to be honest you don't even care enough to watch, last week, I turned over and wont be switching on again.

The Bill has been on for a very long time and this is one change too many, take it off and don't bother with this rubbish again.  I would rather watch a blank screen!

Ugh I know, the bill has been RUINED. They won't change it though, at least I seriously doubt that they will because they are lazy and arrogant. Nobody likes the new changes apart from the people that changed it in the first place grrrrrr. There used to be emphasis on the characters and even more time spent with the victims but now ................SNORE! We don't want blair witch style camera angles, and if something aint broke - DON'T FIX IT!
