Re: Fibromyalgia Awareness Day
Hi Stella, Ive suffered with FMS for 5 years and tried everything from Chiropractors, Osteos, Acupuncturists - but although have had relief, it still is only temporary. Yesterday went to have my first session of Bowen Treatement. Still feel sore round neck, shoulders, groin etc., but will give it 2 more sessions and hope things improve. I wondered if it was going to work at all as I am used to a rather more invasive massage, and this was so gentle. Did you have any side effects after treatment? and how long was it til you got some real pain relief? Many people with MFS and Myofascial Pain Syndrome (which I may have as it's all down left side), have written testimonials on the web about how Bowen is the only thing which has eased their pain. So let's hope it works for me, because Im running out of options! WIll let you know how I feel after 3 sessions - if anyone interested? Jayne

Re: Fibromyalgia Awareness Day
Hi,
I've suffered for 5 years with Fibromyalgia and tried endless treatments, pills, herbs, etc. Im reading Paul Amands book which is very interesting. However, yesterday had 1st Bowen therapy - neck improved (not cured) immediately and feel have more energy cos slept better. Will be going for at least 3 sessions - let me know if you have Bowen to see if you have a good result. The massage was v. gentle and I didnt have much faith in it working to be honest, but lets wait and see!...
Many FMS sufferers say that this treatment works miracles for the pain - so fingers crossed for you in Ireland and me here on the Wirral in UK. (that's between Liverpool & Chester on the map!)
Regards,
Jayne
P.S. Had a good friend at Leeds Uni. in the mid 80's from Enniskillen - John ****** - he was a gem of a guy and SO funny! Wondered if you knew him?

Re: Fibromyalgia Awareness Day
Hi Nin? (dont know your proper name?) What puzzles me is... if Guai is originally from tree bark, why do all other plant extracts found in hundreds of products, block its effectiveness? Trees are natural plants arent they? or am I being thick? We are constantly bombarded with how good natural ingredients from plants are for us, versus chemicals in make-up etc.

Re: Fibromyalgia Awareness Day
Hi,
Have you also read Mark London's theory on Gauifenesin ?
Copy and paste the link below into your browser. He certainly has done tons of research!
The link maybe edited out of this post, but if you just google Mark London and Guai, should find his long report on this fascinating subject!
Regards,
Jayne

Re: Fibromyalgia Awareness
Hi Linda,
5 years ago my Dr. prescribed Amytrip. for me and I hated it - slept better but felt like Id drunk 4 bottles of wine the next day! Since then Ive tried my own methods and herbal potions to ease pain. Acupuncture helped for a while. I also take 5-HTP (must be Peak-X Free) I use Dr. Bests' 5-HTP available on lots of UK websites. When you get correct dose it eases pain and helps to drop off to sleep. Also read about Dr. Roger Murphree - He is a Fibro specialist and makes a lot of sense. He says without deep restorative sleep, pain will never be eased. However, a week ago I had a really bad flare-up. Think it is related to stress (& oddly Im worse when it's damp and rainy!). Never seem to be in pain on holiday in warm climate! Anyway, I felt so low that I booked a session of Bowen Technique therapy. My neck has eased somewhat and Im going for 2 more sessions, then take it from there.

Re: Fibromyalgia Awareness Day
Hi Jayne (the pain!) that does amuse me! Ha ha! This question about not being able to use other products made from plant based material puzzled me too in the beginning, but it's to do with not bombarding the same renal tubules in the kidneys where they'd compete with the Guai. There's a good explanation in chapter four. If you don't mind my saying so, as this sort of topic is going to bore the pants off alot of people on here who aren't interested in this treatment, would you mind focusing your questions on the guai support site (mentioned on page 389) rather than here please? There are plenty of 'lurkers' on the site wondering about guai before they make their minds up and it'd better to have your questions answered properly by the Admin on there! (I'm not being 'funny', I just don't want to irritate certain people!)
Re your mention of Mark London, I'd be inclined to give his website a miss if I were you, as it's not very helpful at all. I've not looked at it, but a friend of mine has and he's looked into it in depth (being very clever) and gave me his opinion. This is what he had to say about it; Apparently the origins of Mark London's article stems from a difference of opinions or clash of personalities on an FMS support group that existed in the years before the official U.S. and UK groups, but it returns every so often.
Mark London is, or was, a technician at MIT in Boston and has no medical qualifications. In essence, the article written by him is an exhaustive attempt to find alternative explanations for the recovery of patients on Guaifenesin, by presenting selected 'evidence' from the internet and presenting it as a coherent theory. It all reads quite convincingly, up to a point, but this is more to do with the style of presentation than content and there are three main faults which I haven't got time to go into here, but alot of it is erroneous and it's not a balanced conclusion as he presents only one set of evidence. There's an agenda at work here, whether it's ego or revenge, but his findings are far from objective and he sets out to disprove the Guaifenesin Protocol at any lengths. Any proper scientific analysis would look at all the available evidence and work dispassionately towards a conclusion.
Dr St Amand has said that he welcomes any proper scientific examination of his theory. He is a specialist in endocrinology with many decades of practice behind him (he's in his eighties) and is the recipient of the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award from his peers in the southern Californian medical establishment. There are very good physiological reasons for seeing phosphate and calcium retention at cellular level and some experimental evidence suggests that this is the case. Personally, I had a translocator protein study done in London (at the same time as an ATP profile which showed abnormalities) and there was a high level of calcium at the outer membrane of my cells (mitochondria) which is very gratifying to know, as it underpins Dr St Amand's theory. There are a number of other scientific projects working on a FMS/ genetic connection apart from Dr St Amand's own and over the six years that my friend has been on guai, he's followed thousands of others over the web or face to face and the results on Guai are undeniable! From my own amazing progress, I'm one of them too.
Hope this was of interest to you Jayne and I hope you're not feeling too bad today? May I point out that Guai may not suit or be of benefit to everyone, but I thought that having tried everything else I had very little to lose and alot to gain if it worked. Fingers crossed it continues this well! Happy reading! All the best, Nin

Re: Fibromyalgia Awareness Day
Hi, Thanks for explaining all about Mark London etc. Clash of personlaities should not be an issue - all we want is to recover dont we?! However, there is a lot written by Dr. Robert Bennett which refutes Dr. Amand's theory too - have you read his report in response to the theory? I just like to get the full picture, even if I dont really understand all the medicinal terminology at times! It is fascinating stuff!
Im still waiting for my Mucinex to arrive and want to get it into my system. This week has been the worst espisode for about 8 weeks, so hopefully things will improve. I am so pleased that Guai has worked for lots of people like yourself, but just think there's so much conflict about the subject, that it needs exploring, and people just not just put blind faith in a book without considering all the other theories. I think we should all have an open mind and understand that "cures" do not always work for everyone. It is a complex disease, with a complex set of symptoms.
Is 'This Morning' going to advertise Fibromyalgia Awareness Day on May12th, or has Chris Steele done his bit when he was interviewing Jo (I missed this programme unfortunately). I will no longer contact you about this subject as I quite undestand it will be of no interest to many people on this forum. Apologies for asking too many question about Gaui - will look at the support site as you suggested. Thanks for all your help and info. and I will drop you a line to say how Guai is helping or not helping (hopefully the former!) over the next few months. Bye, for now
Jayne

Re: Fibromyalgia Awareness Day
Hi Jayne, you're quite right to want to explore all the issues and I'm sorry that you're having such a rough period at the moment. This is how it goes isn't it with this 'cyclic' disease? Don't forget that Guai isn't a cure though, only a treatment, and hopefully it'll work for you as long as you take it, which will have to be for life and only if you're vigilant with product ingredients, so I'm afraid you'll need to study the chapter on sals etc. Please don't waste your time and money taking the Mucinex yet. It'd be a good idea to join the uk group first, where we can all help you to check that your toiletries, make up and meds won't block the tablets. It's quite easy once you get going, so don't worry! We'll all look forward to chatting to you soon. Take good care of yourself and I hope you feel alot better soon. Put your feet up and chill! I'm coming up to the Wirral in early June to see my mother in West Kirby. Maybe we'll be able to meet over a cup of coffee sometime, if that appeals? Ha ha! Best wishes, Nin

Re: Fibromyalgia Awareness Day
Jayne! I've just remembered that you had Bowen therapy two days ago? Well, did the therapist tell you that you should drink a glass of water at least every hour for the rest of the day? Otherwise it's possible to have 'flu' type symptoms? I did if I forgot to drink! I had Bowen therapy on/off for a couple of years awhile back and found it to be so effective for Fibro and even better (energising) when incorporated with Reiki in the same session. It sounds as if you've reacted to Bowen which is good news! Hopefully you'll get some benefit from it soon, as I did! Bye for now, Nin

Re: Fibromyalgia Awareness Day
Hi Nin, Just joined the UK group (I think!) - they've given me a yahoo email ad. All I really want to know is how to get hold of Guaifenesin in the UK and what common toiletries & products to avoid, and to replace them with what? I've emaild Fiona out of the book - but no reply as yet. Could I have some some better instructions about the UK site please.
1. actual website name 2. what difference is there joining the site - as you can navigate it without cant you? Finally what's happening on TV on 12 May - do you know? Oh yes - had one session of Bowen on Wed. Drank a lot of water. Had pain in centre of back which never felt before - but it was if my body was realigning? My neck was so much less lumpy - so looking forward to next few sessions. Should you avoid this type of manipulation on Guai though? Cant see why they shouldnt work in harmony?
Cheers for your continued support, Jayne.

Re: Fibromyalgia Awareness Day
Hi Nin, Just found huge list on site re: SAL FREE products etc. Still not found any UK suppliers of Gaui though! Does everyone in UK have to buy it from USA then? unless getting it on prescritpion like you? What are your actual tablets called? are yours Mucinex? What mg are they? Ive read that 6000mg long release are more effective - that's what I've ordered. If I have to order it from US, which websites are recommended. I know I've got Mucinex from Ebay and you probably think that's unwise - but its prob. people buying it dead cheap from Walmart, Walgreens etc., and trying to make a profit, knowing UK sufferers cant get it over here. Annoying that we were in the States for 10 days in March and if Id had read the book before my hols. I would have walked into one of their huge pharmacies and bought a few packets of Mucinex! Someties wish I was an American Fibro sufferer - be a lot easier! Also last August we were touring California in a huge RV, and we even went through Marina del Ray (isn't that where Dr. Amand is/was based?)
I find it frustrating that the book is readily available in UK but not the medication! People arent going to give it a try if they cant get the tablets easily, especially people who dont know their way round a computer and are afraid of ordering over the Net - especially the older generation!
Any comments - always appreciated! Jayne the Pain!

Re: Fibromyalgia Awareness Day
Hi Jayne, yes that's a great sign if you back feels more sore! Something's happening & it's being re-aligned by the muscles. Glad you drank loads of water.
Can't believe you were in MDR last March! What a fab holiday you must have had. My hubby would love to to hire an RV there too! Just think you could have been examined by the doc himself and met Claudia too. Also stocked up with tablets! Duh! You'd have had so much support, been mapped and all your queries answered!
Best wishes, Nin

Re: Fibromyalgia Awareness Day
Hi Jayne, I'd love to be able to help you but don't know how to pm you on here do you?
Sorry the previous post was only half, so it must have appeared abrupt! It disappeared into the ether I think! I'm glad you've been able to mail Fiona for help, as you say, about getting on the Guai site and what tablets to buy. We'll all be able to help you there with checking your products too, to make sure that you don't block the meds and therefore waste your money. My Mucinex tablets are prescribed and so ordered from a warehouse here in the UK and therefore unavailable over the counter as they are in the States. Look forward to chatting with you elsewhere, so we don't monopolise this one! Ha ha! Best wishes, Nin
