I have suffered from Fibromyalgia for 9 years.  It started gradually after my first caesarian, but was only diagnosed last year.  It is a funny old things really.  Sometimes I am really well and then I crash again.  Your body reacts so badly to things too.  I slipped on the bathroom floor a couple of days ago and now my whole body has gone into rebellion.  When is Fibromyalgia Awareness Day?  I didn't know there was such a day and I have also struggled to get in touch with the local support group.  They don't return calls.  So few people know about this disease and even doctors have varying opinions on it.  It was suggested to me by one doctor that it was all in my head.  It is very real to us who suffer from it though.  It would be great if Phil and Fern did something on the illness to raise awareness. International Fibromyalgia Awareness Day is May 11th, but the second week in September is a UK awareness week.

Thanks to FibroAction's input, NHS Direct and the NHS Clinical Knowledge Summaries have updated their online and patient info! It's a big step in the right direction - now we can refer GP's to NHS information sources!

Hello there have you had your thyroid checked a lot of your symptoms could be due to a thyroid problem.I have a thyroid problem and had various syptoms such as yours until I was diagnosed and treated.Have a look at the Health section on the home page they had a programme about it yesterday. Diana Holmes was a lady suffering various problems and misdiagnosed for years until she was able to be treated for an underactive thyroid which has restored her health. Have a look and see what you think.

I live in Eastham Wirral and think you live on Wirral too?  In April I had reached the end of my tether with joint pain, fatigue, depression etc. and luckily read a post from Nin (listed as Guaiernin).  She may have written to you too.  She introduced me to the book by Dr. Paul St. Amand "What Your Doctor May Not Have Told You about Fibromyalgia".  I bought it that day from Borders at Cheshire Oaks and in May started the Guai Protocol.  I am in no way cured, but feel so much better. 

Just wanted you to be aware of the Guai Protocol (you prob. already are as there's loas of websites about it).

I have a condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome or CRPS as I normally call it, it sounds very similar to your condition as you describe it. maybe you would like to look at a website called the rsdfoundation you can easily find it using google theres an exellent item on there called the Clinical Practice Guidelines - Third Edition. My illness is the total body Syndrome caused by a serious electrical shock that went through my whole body in March 1998. I have other illnesses also including cancer, memory loss etc etc

CRPS/RSD is something that should be ruled out before a Fibro diagnosis is given...

I read your comment so I did a little research on the web. Fibromyalgia is actually a symptom of CRPS?RSD.

Fibro often develops in people with another condition, possibly because of the physical stress that the first condition puts on a body. But I'm not sure I would call it a symptom....and even if you did, you could then say it was a possible symptom from Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hypermobility Syndrome, etc, etc. CRPS/RSD wouldn't be special in that respect.

I don't beleive I seen any comment about CRPS/RSD being "special". And I know exactly what caused my illness and NO I did not suffer from any other condition when I suffered my trauma, which has caused all of my illness. I now because of you, that this kind of trauma also causes fibro.
