    Have re-potted a........

A Cordyline / Cordaline (not sure of the spelling), I've had 2 of them for about 18months, both really healthy, but needed re-potting. I put them into bigger pots, and one is still really healthy, the other is dying I think, most of the lower leaves strated turning brown, then almost black, I've taken off the worst ones, thinking the 'goodness' will then go to the healthier ones, but now I only have about half a dozen healthy leaves left.
Is it def going to die, does anyone know, should I stick at it and hope it recovers, or just dispose of it and buy another ?

Don't know much about Cordylines I'm afraid mosaiq .
Why not try asking your garden centre for advice - I usually find mine pretty helpful :). Sorry I can't be of much help and hope you manage to save it :o .

I have a lovely Hosta that's being eaten to death by slugs and have tried putting gravel/slate/sharp sand around the base. I've even stood the pot on top of another, but still no luck! Think I'm going to have to resort to the beer method ;).

Slugs and snails this year seem a bigger problem than most. Get yourself some Slug Pellets ,sprinkle around the base of the plant and water. Next morning it's look like a battle field post battle with dead slugs and snails all around.

We had a problems with them invading the Greenhouses this year. This they went for one until we put the pellets down and then they went for the other one. Also some of the newer plants like a Buddleia and a couple of Winter Sweets seemed to be on their menu until treated. A friend who was proud of his new healthy Winter Sweet had it eaten overnight !

As for Cordylines we have a couple in the garden that are growing very well. I think one of them used to be in a large pot before being added to one of the borders. Can't help with causes or solutions but your garden centre might be able to help or try google.

I buy the plants but don't have the job of looking after them ,though I am learning.

I sprinkled slug pellets around my sunflowers when I planted them, and luckily my sunflowers are perfectly safe, although a few clever slugs tried climbing up the canes and are now perched on the very tops of them lol !
Not quite sure how they got up the canes though as there are slug pellets around the bottom of them !!

I have thought of planting my Cordylines straight into the border, but as it's a council flat I don't fancy the idea of having to leave them if/when we move, although having said that, they can't stay in pots indefinitely, so maybe I should just plant them now before the worst one dies, it may stand a better chance in the ground. And I suppose we can try digging them up and taking them if we move, although they can grow massive so wouldn't want to risk killing them.

I have also (rather stupidly) bought a cucumber plant this year, I've never grown one before, but it seems to be doing really well in the greenhouse at the moment, so I will have to wait and see.

oh, and I just remembered, I used to have Poppies in my garden too, until one day my OH decided to 'weed' the garden for me, and pulled them all up 'cos he thought they were weeds !!!

Needless to say he is no longer allowed near my garden without me to supervise !!

I've also got our first cucumber plant .The slugs love the plants and had eaten two before the pellets came out but the surviving one is growing happily in a pot outside.

We have some giant poppies about to flower. The flower pods are just starting to open and appear to have Pink flowers inside. There are 4 or 5 plants in two borders. But if the wild flower patch ever grows there should be a mix of wild poppies in amongst the other flowers but it presently looks quite bare with a Buddleia at each end.

On the subject of Buddleias we have a total of 13 in just about every colour and shape available.

The Yellow Global one is in flower as is the Aniflora .And flowers have started to a form on the Blue one. It's quite a sight in high summer especially with all the insect life .

I'd still like one of the new multi-coloured Red ones but I don't know where else I'd put another one.

How's your cucumber doing Larry ? Mine's about 18 inches high, quite big leaves, but no sign of a cucumber yet !

Mines about the same size and looks like it'll soon be covered in flowers.

I might have to find a even larger pot to help it grow better ,as I'm sure it would grow better if it wasn't in a pot but I have some really big pottery pots that might suite it.

Have load of plants going to a local sale Saturday to help raise funds for a church. But have to find somewhere to put yet another Buddleia as one we bought reduced in a supermarket has lot it's label and I don't know what colour it is. The other (5) are a mixture of White and Black Knight versions.
But there will be a car load of different types of plants leaving for the sale.

Well, it seems they are a bit like tomato plants in that once they flower the 'fruit' appears from the flower, mine has 5 yellow flowers and each one has an inch long 'cucumber' growing from it (they look quite cute being so tiny lol) but I am surprised to say that they are prickly !!!!!
Am hoping the prickles disappear, or I'll not be able to eat any of them !!

Hope the sale went well, and please can you let me know if your cucumber grows prickles or not ? lol :D

Ive never had any luck with Hosatas as the slugs adore them. I did put slug pellets down but i think they just attracted every slug for miles around
As for Cordyline i have one in my front garden and its about 6ft now but as they grow the bottom leaves do die off and the base becomes woody.

One piece of advice i did have for slugs tho. I had probs with my potted lupins being devoured. I was advised to smear the side of the pots with cheap vaseline and they cant crawl up. It worked. Another thing with pot plants is wrap copper wire round the pot and that also stops them. Dont ask me why lol

Funny you should say that pob, I've just had my Betterware catalogue delivered, and in it they are selling 'copper tape' which you stick to the tops of pots and it stops the slugs and snails, so it must work !!
