    ITV Player Problems

I have been trying to watch a preview video on the site for five days.  When I visit the ITV homepage, it loads with an error on the page.  The video player remains black with no controls.  I have reinstalled everything I can think of, I have updated my browser, I have changed my security settings slightly, but it still won't work.

I could watch all the videos on the site a week ago.

I have tried emailing ITV about this through the feedback form, but have had no reply.  Is anyone else having the same trouble?  What can I do to fix it?

    Re: ITV Player Problems

    Don't know if it helps.

I have tried on a few pcs.  XP Media, XP Pro, Vista all work ok.  Not amazing spec machines.  The only thing I found is that for Mozilla you need the IE plug in.

The only thing that may help is pressing control + F5 to clear your cache in case thats the issue

Thanks for posting.  Unfortunately it didn't work.  Coincidentally at the same time I had probs with YouTube videos but that seems to have fixed itself. Thanks again.

    Re: ITV Player Problems

I am still having problems with ITV Video Player, ten days after it all started.  And I've still not had a response from ITV.  I've now sent five emails to them, and they haven't replied.  Don't they care about viewer feedback?

    Re: ITV Player Problems

Search the web for a flash uninstaller Totally remove the flash player/plugins with this Go to the itv player and when it says you dont have the flash software install it again

    Re: ITV Player Problems

I've tried doing that.  It didn't work.  Apparently, I no longer have Flash Player.  It just won't uninstall or download.  So I've tried getting in contact with Adobe, but I don't have much faith in getting a decent response.

    Re: ITV Player Problems

I thought I was the only one having this problem and I really hope someone sees this and helps us out!!  I haven't been able to watch the video player on my pc for quite a while now and I can't think of anything else to try!  I can view videoplayer on the itv site from the computer at work so I know it's something to do with my PC but everything else on my pc seems to work fine.  The ITV site doesn't seem to load properly when I retieve it   The site loads but it's "loaded but with errors" and when you click for more details it gives info like line no, char: error: object expected code: URL.  But nothing on how to fix this.  I know my java script etc is fine.  I can watch vidoes on YouTube, it's just the ITV site.  I try and go to the video doagnostics page but it doesn't load properly.  Really frustrating and no, you don't get any response if you try to email for help!  Any ideas?

    Re: ITV Player Problems

If you get a message that you don;t have a flash player, you need to make sure you uninstall the flash player you may have installed on your PC (add/remove programmes should show this up).  Before you reinstall flash player, make sure you have any firewall/antivirus etc turned off.  I had this problem with YouTube and managed to sort it.  My ITV video player still doesn't work though!  Hope this helps.

    Re: ITV Player Problems

I too had no problems with the player up untill recently, I tried the uninstall/reinstall of Adobe Flash each time I went on ITV.Com, sometimes it worked a bit (no controls) other times nothing. I disabled my internet security (Norton) and found everything is back to normal. Maybe one of the recent norton updates is disabling the player somehow.

    Re: ITV Player Problems

I had this problem with ITV and YouTube.

I had to go into my Norton Internet Security and turn it off. I then went back to ITV and tried again. It told me I couldn't play the video and to click to find out about the problem. I was then directed to install an ActiveX control (2 steps). I did all this, turned my Norton back on and have no problems now.

Temporarily turning off Norton also cured my Youtube problems.

I will not be renewing my Norton subscription. It causes as many problems as it solves.

    Re: ITV Player Problems

That didn't work.  I now have no Norton anti virus, but no video either.  Still black box, error on page, no real explanation of error.  ITV have said that this is a problem caused by upgrading their system in October, but the instructions they gave me to fix it don't work.

    Re: ITV Player Problems

I have narrowed my problem down to the ad blocking feature in my internet security. If I turn ad blocking off I have no problem with the player. I will have to look futher and see if I can get it to allow ads from just this site.

I also noticed the same thing cured a problem I had viewing some youtube videos.
