Bernies plans to merge Top gear with F1

Why, I dont get it, what is the point in merging F1 with a bunch of presents who have nothing but contempt for F1, they are not interested in the sport, and surely this cant be for the fact Lewis done a successful 5 minutes on the show? Sheesh that lad has some special pulling power!

Is the link isnt allowed Mods, that swipe it off!

I agree, I think it would be a disaster for both shows.  It would be devaluing our sport and I can't see it doing many favours for Top Gear either.  Leave both shows separate please Beeb!!

If you can find the footage on the BBC you will see him talking about merging the sport and the show, and it seems like this is what he wants at all costs!

Its was the case of full coverage and more, radio, digital tv, interactive, broadband, telephone service and duh duh duhhhhh top gear merging!

Isnt that the same thing, top gear and F1 will be put on at the same time, and the commentators will feature on F1, or whatever way around?

I don't think cross-promotion and merging are the same thing at all. And I doubt that they will be shown on as one merged show. It just won't work because what of the far-east races. They are going to put Top Gear on at 4 in the morning are they? That would be silly and unworkable, not least because the races are always scheduled at varying different times depending on which country its in.

I see cross-promotion meaning that on the Top Gear show they will have special F1 features, more interviews with current F1 drivers or team bosses. That sort of thing. ie: using Top Gear to promote F1 in general and advertise upcoming races.

That is completely different from merging two incompatible shows.

If that is the case I am happy with that.

Re: Bernies plans to merge Top gear with F1

im pretty sure i read somewhere that the BBC had plans to take Top Gear on a live international tour at some stage. Im guessing this would coincide with F1 Races. Maybe the plan is to have Clarkson and co. present the f1 coverage, then at some stage after the coverage, they would put on the live edition of top gear...obviously it wouldnt be live on BBC for races like Japan and Oz though.

Do we know who the F1 commentators are going to be yet?  The thought of Jeremy Clarkson would be enough to make me say "Come back JA all is forgiven!"  Well maybe not quite.Smile

What I can't understand is how this is BEs call?

Has he now taken over as program director for the beeb?

All I am certain about is that this will be an earner for the poison dwarf, and we can forget about what we want!
