I don't know if there will be an F1 '08 but i can tell you that CodeMasters have secured the F1 rights for a F1 '09 game. Which they are particularly proud of because it'll be the first F1 game to have Hamilton in it. So if you can hold out that long you should be in for a treat. Incidentally it'll be utilizing the Colin McRae Dirt physics engine.

apparently the rights foe a 2008 game weren't secured, so there won't be one

Looks like we are in for a long wait for a new F1 game on PS3 unfortunately, we'll have to keep ourselves occupied with GT5 Prologue and the (yet to be relesed) Race Driver GRID. There's still plenty of racing fun to be had.Big Smile

Race driver grid is already out mate. I haven't played it yet but it does look pretty nice on youtube.  More of an arcade racer than a sim (by codemasters own admission) but looks like a bit of fun nonetheless.

I played the GT5 prologue the other day and given the hype I am really not impressed to be honest.  Prime colours on tracks, aliasing issues galore and as for the 'the real driving simulator' tag....pfff!  Maybe if one does all of one's 'real driving' in a dodgem car, then sure.  If you have a decent pc then GTR2 with some of the mod tracks and the "HDR in rfactor" mod (which works with GTR2 and changes the graphical quality substantially) is easily the best race sim out there right now as far as I'm concerned, although the Nordschleife is kicking my ass at the moment. Sad  Damn hard to learn a 20+ Km track. Evening races  (5 to 6 o' clock starts) look fantastic with the HDR and the video settings maxed out.

For a 2008 f1 season, then rfactor with the MMG mod and some good F1mod tracks is really good, although 'out of the box' rfactor is poor and you have to mod the hell out of it to get it looking and playing to a good standard. Also,  the A.I is not that great on single player.  It's Still well worth the effort though to run Lewis off the road at the first corner at interlagos Big Smile and much better than the current PS3 effort when done.  GTR2 is the daddy though and if you enjoy racing and have a wheel then I believe it trounces anything else out there for enjoyment and realism.

...........And yes, I have clearly been too long without a girlfriend. Big Smile

Awwww come on Raikster. Its pretty good! I've been havin a blast with it. No wheel as of yet though. The very frustrating thing about GTP5 is playing on line with people who will use you as a break rather than their breaks themselves and you duely get shunted off the track. I have literally screamed the house down in rage at this.

    Re: Formula 1 2008 on playstation 3

Haven't raced online in a while now mate due to the same frustrations that you have with people.  Also the A.I is so good on GTR2 that I really don't feel the need presently.  As for GTP5 in general I stand by my comments but am hopeful that the final GT5 will be of better quality. Some people don't like GTR2 though (sickos!) so to each their own, although I do feel that once you play with a wheel you'll see some major shortcomings in the physics engine.

Race Driver Grid is not out yet, it's due to be released on the 30th of this month. As for GT5 Prologue, I enjoy playing the game very much (haven't got a wheel though) although as has been said it can get very frustrating online, some of the people you "race" against need a big kick up the backside.

Sorry Steve, I was mistaken it appears.  My idiot local games shop has it in and price tagged but with no "coming soon" type reference to be seen anywhere, hence the confusion  Super Angry   The demo is out though if you're interested.  Seriously though mate, buy a wheel.  I played for god knows how long with first a ps2, then an xbox360 controller, thinking "how much difference can there really be?"  If I had to go back to playing racing games with a controller now I probably wouldn't bother .  Using a wheel is a world apart in terms of feel/fun and well worth the investment.  You can get a decent Logitech MOMO force feedback wheel (with pedals) on ebay for about twenty quid for pc,  though a PS3 one will cost you a little more.

Or, if you have some money to burn (£200), I totally recommend Logitech's G25 wheel. Works great with PC, PS 2 & 3. 6 gear shifter and clutch pedal too.
