I am so very sad to hear of the passing of Clive Hornby. On the occasions I tuned in to Emmerdale....Clive in his role as Jack Sugden certainly drew in the audience . Although I never met him, during interviews with the press Clive was clearly a good decent and talented man and will be sadly missed .He  will be rememberd by many of us .

I send my deepest condolences to his son Thomas, to his family, friends and to the cast of Emmerdale.

Sad,sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with Clive's family and friends.

An Emmerdale institution. He will be greatly missed by all Emmerdale fans, and, I'm sure the cast and crew who knew him as real man, not just a fictional character.

We fans will miss Jack Sugden, those who knew the man will miss the soul who was Clive Hornby

It's such a loss and Clive will certainly be missed.  I had the pleasure of meeting Clive years ago when he attended the Todmorden Agricultural Show as a celebrity guest, he was a kind and very funny chap and one of lifes true gentlemen.  My deepest sympathies go out to his family at this very sad time.

Re: Clive Hornby (Jack Sugden) tributes

I was born the year Clive Hornby started on Emmerdale Farm. I can remember watching bits of it as a small child with my Mum. His character Jack always caught my eye as when I was little because he was always in it unlike some of the other caharcters. I became a fan myself of the show and when I was a bit older and was able to appreiciate an actors ability can remember thinking that Clive Hornby was one of the greats. He will be sadly missed by all who new him personnally i'm sure and his character too by all emmerdale fans. The script writers will have a tough job righting him out of the show as he is such an iconic character.

    Rest in peace.

So lovely to see so many posts in tribute to Clive. I feel sure his family will draw some comfort in the fact that he, through the character of Jack was so appreciated by so many people.

We will miss Jack but, not in the way that his family and friends will miss Clive.

Be assured that you are in our hearts and prayers. I just hope that the scrips writers do Clive justice.

Chris Chittell lost a friend that he has known for over 20 years, his tribute was well done.

Re: Clive Hornby (Jack Sugden) tributes

First I would like to say - sorry to his family who must miss him dearly.

I met Clive in 1985 when he was taking part in a charity Golfing event at Mottram Hall in cheshire - I had my picture took with him with my 9 month old daughter, at the same time I was pregnant with my son.

He was a lovely man & nice person to chat to - easy going & it did not bother him - people like me & mum asking for picture's to be took with him. ( he was sat with Benny from Crossroads - it was a lovely day out and the sun was shining and he had time for everyone - even tho he did not know any of us stranger's - he only knew the other famous characters like Benny from cross Roads & Norman Wisdom & famous footballers who also attended the charity event.

What I am saying he had of time for all - with respect to others - Hope his family take care - he will be sadley missed on Emmerdale ( I even remember saying to him - Jack can I have my picture took with you & he reply yes)

    R.I.P Jack

Take care his family you had a good dad & husband. Who will be really sadley missed.

    xxx
