Sorry deasyb - but how is Ray smug?

It's no wonder that young people don't want to get involved in sport when people like you make superficial judgments based on your obvious dislike if someones appearance

    Re: Ray Quinn

No need to be sorry, i am just stating the obvious. Ray is very obviously smug, cocky and arrogant. Take the time recently when he didn't get full marks, he nearly asked for a recount.

And anyway the main point was that the judges were biased and he didn't deserve full marks which i note you didn't dispute.

    Re: Ray Quinn

It's a public only vote this week, and I stopped paying attention to the judges ages ago.

Ray is confident, if you take that as smug then god help the world - how about Jess - little miss "I deserve to be in the Bolero stakeoff" is she arrogant, cocky and smug?

    Re: Ray Quinn

No she was upset because she put a lot of work into it a deserved to be in the skate off as did Donal. Ray doesn't deserve to be in it because it was all favoritism with the judges all along and he has experience in dancing and skating before he even started. And once again the main point goes undisputed and that is that Ray clearly did not deserve full marks and was not as good as the others in his first skate tonight!

    Re: Ray Quinn

I'm talking about that interview that she gave on Friday - she said and I quote:  "I truly believe that I am the best skater in the competition I deserve to be in the Bolero stake off and to win the competition" - the full interview transcript is available on the web if you'd care to search for it.  It will make you change your mind about how nice she is.

And to put an end to it - in my opinion Ray's performance far outshone hers - though I was surprised by Jess getting knocked out by Donal.

What makes you think that Ray hasn't put a lot of work into it?  Have you forgotten that Jess was a semi-pro ice dancer when she was a teenager?

    Re: Ray Quinn

What a Total Total farce. What was the point of the last 10 weeks? Donal comes on to the ice with out being able to stand up and then dances the final so well!!.  Ray comes on to the ice, a total ringer. Donal had a journey to get where he got to and Ray well he just didn’t do much at all. As I have said from the day I started this thread, Ray was a natural on the ice when he started. This is what has made it so unfair. OK he has won, so well done to him. However he should never have come onto the ice in this competition. All I can hope is that ITV read some of the postings on this forum. For the people who like Ray there are many who found his presents on the ice frustrating to put it politely? I am not going to say anything against Ray himself as this would not be fair to him. The problem is the ITV producers and the narrow minded, blinkered voters who could not see the point of the competition. I know I have got the reputation of being Coleen’s agent and thank you for this. But as I have repeatedly said she started at the same point as Donal did. Donal should have won this evening as he has come the furthest.

Jess was a semi pro ice dancer as a teenager - now she could be considered a ringer

OK then, this does nothing but back my argument against ITV!

    Re: Ray Quinn

Neither ITV, Torville & Dean or Ray Quinn himself knew how naturally talented he was until he started Dancing on Ice..... don't knock the guy for being good

If I have to listen to Colleen Yappy Nolen going on about her "40-something"body (and doesn't it look every bit of it .. just like her face!!!) - what about Linda Lusardi or Bonnie Langford who were older!!!

And what about Cherie Lunghi on Strictly Dancing!!!

If you're going to go on about Ray Quinn... what about Leona Lewis on X-factor who from week 1 outshone every contestant in the show and it was obvious the whole way through she would win!!

    Re: Ray Quinn

I take the point but it is difficult to see how the playing field could be completely level at the start. My own concern is rather that, as with Strictly Dancing, the competition is spoilt for me by having rules which give Joe Public such a large share of the vote - half in early rounds and all the vote in the final. Most people are not qualified to assess the skating performances; and many vote, of course, on such ridiculous grounds that fairness is seriously undermined. If you care about justice being done, I do not see how you can support the public having more than a very minor influence.

    Re: Ray Quinn

What you all forget is that the other skaters were judged as amateurs.. but the whole way through, the judges judged Ray in the same way as they would a professional skater! He's had a hard journey - at times I shouted at the tv screen that he's only a 20 year old who dances- he hasn't been doing this all his life like Robin Cousins!!

At times the judges judged him so harshly that if it had been Torville & Dean in 1984 - they would have given Torville & Dean 5.5's in 1984 for Bolero!

    JUSTICE PREVAILED!!

    Re: Ray Quinn

Donal may have come the furthest but this is only because his lack of affinity with the ice at the start.  I too think he did really well and definitely deserved to be the runner up.  It showed the public recognised how far he had come.  Ray on the other hand turned out to be a natural on ice and as a result was very entertaining and inevitably he gave a better performance in the end.  I don't think it was unfair that he could skate better, it gave the programme heaps of variety and made it more interesting.  He may have come over as being a bit cocky sometimes but hey at least he wasn't offensive like a couple of the judges. I don't think you can knock him for putting on great performances.  Although I have to agree with those who say he shouldn't have got such high marks for the flying, which isn't skating and I think should be ditched.
