    lizzie

my wife and i are extremely offended at your storyline about this woman.you have given the part to a clown of a woman, who hasnt done any research at all by the looks of things! we love the show but she has to go.

my wife is registered blind, and is perfectly able to make tea etc. she has built up a real admiration for herself from friends and others about how she manages everyday life and chores without ever complaining.

this womans character is undoing all of the hard and dignified work that my wife and others like her have tried to build up. she has to go. after all, why should my wife be upset after every episode ?

    Re: lizzie

My grandmother is blind. She's not whiter than white, she was a bit of a minx in her day... so why do you believe that all blinde people have to be well behaved, sweet and innocent.

Maybe you're the one who is blind.

    Re: lizzie

She is blind in real life and playing the part of a sponger who will get anyone to do things for her than do them her self - plenty of people like that in real life being blind does not make you a saint I'm afraid.

sorry but i still think they are taking the mick out of a serious disability. if you read my post again i said it was the writers who were wrong not the actor.by the way we have more laughs about the problem than you would believe !!

    Re: lizzie

You are deluded. They are not "taking the mick" out of anything. They are showing that despite being blind, Lizzie is just like most of the other characters in Emmerdale - a thieving scally.

    Re: lizzie

I understand what you mean. I find it annoying as well, when they have Lizzie claim that she can't make a cup of tea. However, the actress herself is blind and had a hand in developing her character. She said that blind people are far too often protrayed as 'saintlike' which she saw as a sort of positive discrimination. She wanted Lizzie to be more 'interesting' and to show that blind people can be just as odious as the rest of society. Lizzie is a thief and a scrounger and will therefore play upon her disability both to get what she wants, and to have people undermine her so that she can get away with things. It does make her a very unlikeable character in my opinion and I also feel that she is too OTT at the moment. I also think that too much attention is being drawn to her blindness, which seems to be the opposite of what was initially intended. Hopefully, they will have her settle down, be shown as a little more 'human', and demonstrate that she is, in fact, capable of functioning as well as anyone else within society.

Lizzie is a skiver.  She would use any excuse to avoid her share of the chores. Its a case of won't do, not can't do.

The same could be said for Eli who doesn't have blindness as a reason.  BTW where did that £200 come from?

That's true Big Smile Eli is more like an overgrown teenager though. I can't help but find him somehow endearing.

I think we'll found out where Lizzie got that money. I know Eli gets suspicious.

    Re: lizzie

I do actually like the way they are treating her like a normal character and not being afraid to give her comedy plots. I really feel this shows blind people are the same as any one else, apart from the physical differences.

In real life people do end up in these situations and people do do these things that happens with Lizzie.

I think its very realistic and anything else would be sugar- coated and unreal, making 'Blind People' really thought of as different, and that you have to be careful how to portray them, which is not the case.
