The way Tony keeps looking at Maria these days I wouldn't be surprised if he gets the salt and pepper out in order to devour the placenta - he looks as if he wants to eat her up!  Gross thought, by the way - do you feel sick yet?

I dont find them cringeworthy, unlikely, but not cringeworthy.  At least their relationship is not sexual (yet).  Tony is just consumed with guilt and is desperately trying to make it up to Maria by being there for her.  I dont find the same revulsion as I do with the Molly/Kevin scenario, perhaps its because Tony and Maria are goodlooking unlike the other pair.

Very gross, Skatequeen.  I do feel sick.

    I agree with you, Buttercupgirl.

Actually it's quite sad that murderous Tony is one of the few people I'd like to have round to dinner. Very nice manners, listens attentively, seems interesting.  Do a little exercise in your mind and imagine that you are going to have a dinner for 8, 6 of whom must be Corrie dwellers.  The mind boggles. Impossible call.

I am finding all of corrie very cringeworthy lately all the storylines are rubbish and totally pathetic compared to what corrie has produced in years gone by. at the moment we Have Molly & Kevin like love sick puppies, murderer tony gordon getting closer and closer to Maria who not a few months ago accused him of liams death. now i read in the coming months sophie webster is going to get a female lover and dump Boyfriend Ben.

i have watched Corrie for at least 17/18 years and this year it's going downhill like a stone. like Emmerdale did last year thats getting better but still not at it's best. i am not watching Corrie at all
at the moment due to it's rubbish storylines.

    Marias baby.

This must have been the strangest birth every. No blood no placenta; no umbilical cord. I am male – so no expert – but from observation of my daughters birth its all involves more than happened on the beach last night. The baby seemed pristine as well.

Also, middle of summer – on a beech. Why was it deserted? Any beech – even one between Southport and Liverpool.  It would have had many people on it. What sort of dimwit goes in such an isolated place on the verge of giving birth anyway.

What purpose – other than the ratings – does this story serve. The whole episode was ridiculous. When are they going to bang up Tony up for murder (or conveniently get him killed of – or suicide perhaps threatening to take Marias baby with him). Either way let’s get him out of the series.

Yep typical soap birth not unlike Viv from Emmerdale who gave birth at 50 to twins on the moors.  No blood, and a labour that takes only minutes with a few ooh aaars and a bit of gurning.  Very convenient that woman turned up that was able to take the dog so Tony could travel in the ambulance with Maria.

Re: Tony and Maria cringeworthy ?

TV is probably responsible for most women's complete lack of prepared-ness when it comes to the agonising, revoltingly messy, undiginified business of giving birth.  No-one looks like Maria did either during or straight after labour.  And yes - placenta, goo, poo etc.  It all comes  out but was there one spot of it on the fragrant Ms M?

And why do they always plonk a blummin' hat on newborns' heads?  Hospital wards are like the amazonian jungle as it is and I've always understood that putting a hat on a baby when indoors is potentially life-threatening for the little cherub - overheating and all that jazz.  They always show young babies wearing hats on American TV (drives me mad!) but then the Americans also tell pregnant women that it's unhygienic to have a bath!  Bonkers!

I wish that Tony wasn't being so sensitive and charming and protective.  Taking charge, a knight in shining armour.  He's even making beautiful but foolish Maria seem more congenial.  I have to keep reminding myself that the mans a murderer and no good can come of the situation.

Re: Tony and Maria cringeworthy ?

I was wondering about the umbilical cord, if there was one it was a b****y long one!  Funny how that woman turned up again wasn't it? Also it was strange the beach was so deserted it was meant to be summer but was very overcast (probably due to when it was actually filmed).  I don't remember the baby having a hat on in the hospital, cerainly had a full head of hair, but that isn't unusual.  BTW did you know he was played by a she? Her sister plays Sarah in Emmerdale.  Tony's face though when Maria decided to call the baby Liam!

Re: Tony and Maria cringeworthy ?

So Maria has now had her baby, Liam's mum and dad have turned up, but where are Maria's, I don't think she has even had a phone call from them?

If only Tony wasn't a murdering control freak.  He is clever, charming, protective and supportive and   would be such a good husband to beautiful, naive Maria.  Can't we just forget the killing of Liam, the treatment of Jed Stone and remember that he did once put Rosie firmly in her place.  And he does seem to regret his actions.  We're always hearing people say "all I want is an apology", so lets get him to apologise and give him another chance.  What do you say?

Wow Herne, my feeings exactly. Apart from the fact that he can still come over as a bit creepy when he wants to, what a bloke! Good looking, if you can forgive the dodgy eye, very fit, snappy dresser, good with the baby, attentive to Maria, intelligent, cooks... the list is endless.

I suppose the only real fly in the ointment is......how many women could forgive and forget that he had their husband, the baby's father murdered, hmm let me ponder on that one a while.....
