Anyone missing F1 during this break?
Weird this, I am actually not missing F1 during this 3
week break. Even when I used to watch F1 preHamilton post Mika era and
fall asleep on the sofa as I hogged up the tv and remote to ensure it
was left on F1, I still desired F1 to be on just for some sort of
reassurance and keeping up with the sport in my own little way. In fact
if there was an option for a longer break for ALL teams to get their
act together for the rest of this season, I would welcome it. Politics has spoilt everything good about F1 this year.

Re: Anyone missing F1 during this break?
Hiya, great post. I agree with everything you say. I've been a fan of F1 since early 1990's and I lived and breathed the sport. The Damon Hill years were my favourite, but after he retired I kinda lost someone to take his place and root for. Lewis Hamilton gave me that person and when he passed Glock on the last lap I was literally on my feet shouting at the television, a feeling that I'd not had for the sport in years. This season just feels "wrong" in my opinion. Not taking anything away from Jenson Button and Brawn GP or Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull, but it feels as if they're just providing the warm up act, ready for the headlining people you paid money for and came to see (i.e. Mclaren, Ferrari, etc). I agree about the politics aspect too, it overshadows everything about a Sunday afternoon. While it's good to read about F1 going into the week following a Grand Prix, the fact that the whole sport was hanging in the balance for 2010 was a depressing read, only for it to thankfully come to nothing.

Aname, its a momentous occasion but.....I agree with you wholeheartedly on this one.
At the moment, its kinda lost its appeal to me, Im struggling to be inspired, be excited or even think of things to post as Im just not motivated at all.
I havent missed it hardly at all and for someone who considers herself to live it and breathe it, its a very surreal position to be in.
I just hope it wears off

Re: Anyone missing F1 during this break?
Couldn't agree more folks! I've been immersing myself (away from the forum) in the vagaries surrounding the FIA/FOTA stand-off and the potential outcomes for governance.
There have been some really superb, erudite exchanges on this on the forum and I think these are truly important for the future health of the sport.
However, when this element almost takes us over completely; maybe we feel we've lost that special F1 racing sensation - best drivers - best machinery - premier sporting product - can't wait until the next practice session starts - who's going to come up with something new for us? For the first time I can remember, I'm currently more concerned about the future governance of F1 rather than looking forward to the racing - sorry.
Good time for lawyers - good time in some respect for some of us regulatory anoraks but; our sport's definitely a bit peeky right now!

I can't agree more. In the past years I was going through withdrawals during the 3 week break but this season is so boring. Not even the fact that Hammi's car is slower than force india (hehehe) can get me exited.

It's funny, but I'm not missing it either, sick to the back teeth of the Bernie and Max sideshow, the politics has just made it crap this year for me, I can imagine F1 has lost a lot of potential followers over all this bull. I'm just enjoying the hot weather and watching a bit of tennis. Lovely.

Re: Anyone missing F1 during this break?
agreed. im enjoying the break and a chance to forget about all the BS. its been a season to forget so far, ive been enjoying other types of motorsport where the racing comes first and bickering is kept behind closed doors. F1 has been a bit of a chore this year, it wouldnt be so bad if all the fighting actually lead to interesting racing but it hasn't, amid all the arguing about power and money the fact that F1 needs to become interesting on the track seems to have gotten lost. It doesnt matter whether its the FIA or FOTA who does it but someone needs to get the competition back in F1 sharpish otherwise the people (fans) who actually have money to spend on all the sponsors products won't be watching anymore and F1 will playing to an audience of middle and far east fans who can't afford to get to the races let only buy a ticket to get in .. sponsors won't be liking that too much.

Re: Anyone missing F1 during this break?
Yes agreed too. Sick of the politics. OK there were always politics in F1 but at least in previous years they actually seemed to mean something, this year they are just so obviously cynically contrived and I get the impression that the powers that be are acting like the govt and treating us like a bunch of ignorant mugs. Come the revolution.....

Re: Anyone missing F1 during this break?
Strange, but like all others so far I must join the group and say for 17 years I couldn't wait for the next race or next season to begin, but strangely this year with all the garbage smelling up the place it's been nice to get outside so to speak and breathe the fresh air.and I'm in no hurry to get back inside. Here's hoping for a better last half.

Re: Anyone missing F1 during this break?
I hear what you are all saying and I agree. The whole power struggle has been very tense, a bit exciting but mostly scary, and it has certainly been very distracting.
It's been a strange season so far, all turned on its head, with the usual suspects failing to show. When it could have started to hot up with improvements to Ferrari and Red Bull, the politics seized the headlines and the attention.
I also am hoping for a better second half of the season.

It looks like F1 as left the building, along with Elvis and one of your posts

I've stopped watching - I don't miss it at all...
The last thing of interest was the breakaway series... the rest of it is just garbage...

Re: Anyone missing F1 during this break?
Come on you guys and gals, this is F1 we are talking about - how can you not miss it, I hate this 3 week break, roll on next week and Germany.
Rise above the politics and shenanigins and ignore all the unpleasantness of grown up people falling out and sulking because they did not get there own way, - it's the racing we love and it will be back next week, yea....(even if I have to put up with watching and listening to ham,)
OK, so it may or may not be your favourite driver at the top of the championship but when have we let get us down, we can all still be there, in front of the box, beer (or wine) in hand, big thick sandwich, packet of crisps or your favourite munchie, waiting for the red lights to go out, please say you will all be there, I know I will, wouldn't miss a race.

Re: Anyone missing F1 during this break?
Strange thread, not only am I not missing it but for the first time ever I never pressed record when I fell asleep through the British Grand Prix the British Grand Prix!, the cars going round and round often sends me to sleep after a late night on Saturday but I always press record. I'm surprised so many of us are feeling the same, the British GP needed rain lots of it to bring Hamilton up the field but of course Vettel the new rain master would of been way in the distance.
