Are we in some kind of F1 cocoon??
I know this is an F1 forum - fair enough - but it does seem that everyone's avoiding the real big talking points of the times and I think it's about time we acknowledged them. Let's face it, there's *** all going on in F1 right now.
I don't think it's a good thing to separate out cultural issues these days and it's a bit strange that the tragic death of Michael Jackson has been ignored (apart from by aname, bless you). Is it because people feel that we must keep religiously to the F1 subject? I don't get it, all these things are surely intertwined?
And the other big talking point for me has been dear Andy Murray. My god what a fighter! I was absolutely gutted this evening, I really thought he'd be in the final, so sad for him, but he'll be back. Too much expectation from the British media yet again.
Any thoughts?

Yeah, I didn't mourn the passing of Micheal Jackson, just something way to creepy about him for me, actually I posted something about a huuuuuuuuuuuuge engine yesterday, nothing to do with F1 lol, Andy Murray ? not a fan of him either so I was glad Roddick won, it was a cracking match though, I dont normally watch tennis but I did enjoy that match, I think they both gave it their all.
It is a bit quiet on the F1 front, though I've a feeling that might change over the next week or so, cant wait until next weekend though, I've seen forumers elsewhere saying its gone a bit "flat", but I dont think it has myself. I've been swotting up on Max and his hoppo's

Re: Are we in some kind of F1 cocoon??
LOL Trust you stigga!
Now I wouldn't say I "mourn" MJ exactly but I'm a big enough softie to feel a bit sad about the whole thing! Don't reckon much on his voice but what a mover/dancer and you can't deny his influence on some of the later artistes.........although I'm struggling to name names. No come on now it is a shame.
As for Andy Murray, well he certainly divides opinion, doesn't he? My mum and stepdad go on about his look and mannerisms etc and all that, and I just say well for goodness sake he's the best player Britain has produced in years. Yes Roddick played a brilliant game, fantastic, and I was really cursing him until I saw his interview after the match. What a nice modest guy! My mum's a bit of a Federer fangirl, so I'm going to enjoy cheering on Roddick on Sunday!

You got that right.F1 is more boring now than when MS was winning all the time. I think it's because the personalities in F1 are (Sorry to say) a bit boring. I've said it many times, F1 needs villains and nemesis.
Oh,,,, there has to be a michael Jackson forum somewhere if you need to express despair.but as you said, this is a formula 1 forum.

Champ, sorry to hear you have a life outside F1...
I guess you would not want to look for designer clothes in a DIY shop. While I can only speak for myself, I could not care much less about pop or tennis, but I do take note. It is never nice somebody dies before their time, but this young boy dieing from cancer this week, for example, is much more touching for me. But then again, I'd not expect to discuss this in a F1 forum, but look for a community with interest in that subject. Personally I am more looking forward to the tour de france. ITV is doing a good job in their coverage, but then again, I am not that interested to post in the tour forum

too right champalonso, i don't agree with such a long break in f1, i think the longest break should be 2 weeks, not 3. it is sad to here of michael jackson's death but it has been heavily covered by the news. he will be missed my billions as he was one of a kind. his talent and creativity cannot be matched. sold more records than any human, took him less than 20 years to turn white and about 20000 for nature to turn people white. and the allegations. as far as murray is concerned he is only 22 and will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. i think he just got tired towards the end of the match. that was the furthest he has ever been and it took a lot out of him. he'll be fitter and better next year am sure and hope nadal is not in it again next year.

So glad AM got knocked out of Wimbledon tbh. Although having him in the final to get defeated would have been sweet too. Needless to say he only got this far through luck.

I know what you mean, and understand about the voice too,not bad but there are plenty betterm as for his dancing and choreography, I'm with you on that one, I cant think of anyone who's done better, and its hard to imagine anyone ever will. I notice justrace has mentioned the lad that went fishing at Woking and I agree with his comments there, for me that kind of puts the whole MJ thing into perspective.
Murray does seem to divide opinion, though as I said not being a fan of tennis I dont know enough about him as to say why, I just know he's never appealed to me, I'll probably watch the final though, and yeah Roddick seems quite modest he's the one I'd be rooting for if I was a fan.

As you say, this is an F1 forum.
If I want to express a view on pop music or tennis I'll go elsewhere.

The problem is there is too much **** going on in F1, which is why people are staying away from these forums... some of us have had enough of it...
F1 has no appeal to me now...
I felt like a bit of my youth died with Wacko Jacko... he sure was the best of the best when it came to music and dance... a classic case of burnt twice as bright for half as long...
Tennis is boring, so I don't really have an opinon on it - although, I do enjoy playing it myself...
Maybe, my interest might pick up if the breakaway series gains some momentum, given the mop's latest declaration of love towards Hitler...

I was sorry about Andy Murray too, champ. It would have been great to have a British winner - or should I say Scottish lol. He is from Dunblane, and that's a town that has had more than its fair share of bad luck. Apparently Andy was actually in the school at the time of the shooting. Anything which gives the town a lift has to be good.
The Tour de France is live each day on Eurosport, justrace. It's a freeview channel - you get ads of course, but not too bad. They show quite a bit of cycling, the Giro d'Italia among others. Hubby is a great fan so I pick up a bit too.
It all makes a change from F1 politics, I guess. There's not much of interest in the racing right now.
