Perhaps I have been hopelessly naive, but I believed that motorsport was about the best cars and the best drivers winning races and championships. This season has seen that illusion destroyed and the final lethal cut occurred today at Interlagos.
FIAT is in deep trouble and cannot continue to justify the cost of running Ferrari in F1 without achieving significant results. F1 without Ferrari would lose a significant proportion of its viewers. Without the vast worldwide audience, F1 and the competing teams would not be able to attract the current huge sponsorships.
I suspect that it was this set of circumstances that led to the desparate measures we have seen this year.
The coincidence is simply incredible. It defies belief. They say that anything too good to be true probably isn't. The same applies to anything too convenient or too bad. These circumstances have been far too convenient for Ferrari and for Bernie Ecclestone. They have been far too soul destroying for Lewis.
I have loved F1. I will miss it.
