To me, Sarah's character has always been the weakest part of the show. Stephen Tompkinson, as usual, is completely convincing in his role, but I never bought Amanda Holden as his wife. There's no real on-screen chemistry between them. And Danny has a more interesting relationship with Sarah's children than Sarah does.
Making Danny a widower again provides excellent fodder for the writers: How will Danny and the kids cope? (Watching Stephen as a two-time widower be a revelation, I'm sure.) Will Evan and Olivia want to live with their father? Will Simon fight to take the kids back to England (even though we know they'll stay)? How will it affect Danny's relationship with Caroline? Will Caroline take over the hospitality duties or will they hire someone? Etc, etc.
