I have been watching F1 since I can remember, some thirty years plus, and I understand the rules. I am AMAZED at their one-sided implementation today. I will not watch F! again, this is a matter of principal. My friends intend to boycott F1 too.
I have seen dozens of cases exactly the same as this one and NONE of them have EVER resulted in a 25 second penalty. The only reason a 25 second penalty would be given would be to make the table closer (Driver championship). Although this might be exciting and "good for business", it is unfair and not a true representation of the achievements of the teams.
I am enraged to the point of bursting, by the decesion of the stewards today but appreciate that will pass. What worries me is the prospect of this biased governing body continuing to manipulate the results in one direction.
It's another nail in the coffin of F1.

I have just seen the details of the incident and resulting penalty Re:
"cut the chicane and gained an advantage", thereby breaching Article
30.3(a) of the sporting regulations and Appendix L chapter 4 Article 2
(g) of the International Sporting Code
.
I cannot remember any driver being penalised after giving the place back - in fact, this has always been the method of avoiding a penalty. Kimi tried to keep Lewis behind, but failed. Let's not forget Lewis had just caught up 5 seconds in a few laps.
