It's not the first time Ferrari have threatened to pull out of F1 to get their own way.

The one question I would ask is what other form of racing would Ferrari, or any other team for that matter, compete in that isn't also governed by the FIA?

If Ferrari left F1 and then took part in another FIA governed form of racing, I'm sure the FIA would go out of their way to make life as difficult as possible for them.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the only high profile racing that wouldn't be under FIA control would be Indycar. While this would be fantastic for Ferrari for their sales in the US, I somehow can't see them restricting themselves to only racing in the US.

I think this situation is a difficult one. On one hand, there is no doubt costs need to be cut and it is fantastic to see so many new teams such as Prodrive, Lola and USF1 want to enter F1 if there is a budget cap. But on the other hand, F1 needs the existing teams too.

I hope a compramise can be reached that keeps the existing teams in, and also still attracts the new teams, but I think there is a hell of a lot of ground to cover before the FIA and the teams can meet in the middle.

I think the FOTA will start a new for of racing F1 in all but name
