I just want to say that I completely agree. I have been a fan of primeval since series 1, and I have stuck by it despite people saying that it is 'cheesy' 'geeky' and 'rubbish'. However, I have to admit I am having doubts about series 3. In S1 & 2 the characters were great, easy to relate to, funny, whilst at the same time keeping us on our toes, and the story was not just all chases. The CGI was great, and the storyline was subtle and compelling. The creatures were convincing, and realistic. Now, I think the producers/writers are pushing their luck a bit. I mean, after Cutter died, the story kind of fell apart. Everything happened too fast, and the plot got dreary. Jenny left and Danny came, and the story has changed-in too many ways. The teams job is no longer to protect the public from creatures, whilst dealing with emotional issues. They are now doing a mixture of fighting creatures, opening and closing anomalies, investigating the artefact, attempting to cope with Christine Johnson, and frankly, it's getting a bit much. The characters are getting inconsistent and boring, and the plot is slowly being separated into all the issues that they are tackling. Also, they are missing out on some great characters-where's Helen gone? She was a great villain, both showing her plotting and scheming side and glimpses of her human side.
I have to say though, the one thing that gets me most is the creatures. Oh Dear. They are rapidly sliding downhill-I'm sorry, but Fungus monsters???!? What was all that about? They were basically just bogey-covered bionicles! That episode had no logic to it, either. During the episode there were loads of times when the whole team should have got infected-in the apartment, when they got down on their hands and knees and sniffed it, for goodness sake. And in the lab, with Connor-surely the whole arc would have been infected when that shaft was opened. Another pathetic monster was the demon thingy. The CGI was pathetic in that and that idea was bad. They obviously couldn't be bothered when they were filming-the night and day error was awful. Fans notice these things- they must think all the viewers have an IQ of 4.!..
And to all those viewers who are adamant that Primeval is better than ever-good for you, but you have to accept the fact that this is a forum, which lets viewers voice their opinion-it's being a bit sensitive to take offence. But it's good that people have faith in Primeval- even if it's not to everyones tastes. Me? I will continue to watch the series with a vague hope that Primeval will get it's act together- but I'm not willing to get my hopes up.
Producers/writers: If you are reading this message, please do something about primeval. Stop attempting (note the 'attempting') to "appeal to all audiences". IT'S NOT WORKING. There will always be people who can't be pleased, but that's just the way things are. Take a leaf out of S 1 & 2's book-lets have something interesting, logical, compelling, scary, and something with better creatures, please. We Primeval fans who are pasionate enough to bother writing long 'essays' are the majority of the audience. This is a forum. Take our opinions into account.
P.S I am 12 years old, and I can be bothered to voice my opinion. I love Primeval, and respect it enough to use english, not textspeak. People won't take me seriously if I speak like your average teenager-and Primeval fans should be taken seriously, so that the series can thrive... Please comment. I'd be interested to find out what others think.
