During the time of "The Thatcher Era" I lost my home to the recession The Thatcher recession, jobs in the building trade, next to nothing. We had no help at all from the fat cat Conservatives yet they still call this Labour government and blame them for this world recession don't get me wrong I wouldn't vote again for any of these two parties and the Liberals well nothing more to say about them so what is left for this country to bring it out of the doldrums, Communism no i don't think so although it might work for a while. Fascism no chance. Nazism well although we already have our own SS namely the police and Gehima states policie this would never work. Now this government has wasted billions of pounds proping up the banks, when it wasnt needed reason the government is a bank within its self. Just an idea the government could have given all true english people I million pounds no matter how many are in the family with this happening all industries would have survived people would have spent on every thing they really wanted no social security payments etc I could go on it only takes a bit of thought from these so called experts wait a bit it's them got us in this mess in the first place. I think we should just keep watching them chasing their tails.

On GMT there was a women who went the park with here kids. when she was there one told they had a party to go to.

She went over the street to the shop to get a present for the party.

She left one of the kids to look over all the rest i think they were nine when she got back the police were there

she was told of for going she was not done for it it.but it is she has a record for it,So what about the McCanns is is ok for

them to leave Madeleine they went to a bar see what happen no one has go at them no we are to be sorry for them

so what is the difference,

Having watched the prog tonight, I am perplexed ... I feel very sorry for the family who lost their home. However, it was mentioned very clearly in the programme that these people, having got into debt, through whatever fault, when having lost their home, were housed in council housing. I find this astounding as, although they lost their home, by council standards they had made themselves deliberately homeless????

How come food prices rocketed with the cost of fuel and know fuel is coming down in price the food prices havent changed and some of the foodstuffs are terrible you buy in the well known supermarkets and within a space of two days food in the cupboard is going moldy

WHERE DO I BEGIN? I AM IN DEEP FINANCIAL DEBT AND ON THE VERGE OF LOSING MY HOUSE. I USED TO WORK FOR THEA B/S AND WAS MEDICALLY RETIRED AFTER MANY YEARS OF GRIEF AND NOW THEY WANT TO TAKE ME HOUSE. MY DISABILLITY CAUSES MANY PROBLEMS,, I HAVE TRIED TO STAY ABOVE IT BUT FIND THAT I AM SINKING DEEPER. I GET A PENSION FROM THE BUILDING SOCIETY AND AM STILL CLASSED AS A STAFF MEMBER RECEIVING MONTHLY NEWS LETTERS ABOUT THE WORK THEY DO FOR EX MEMBERS OF STAFF. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME SORT OUT THIS MESS BEFORE THEY MAKE ME HOMELESS? I HAVE NOWHERE ELSE TO GO. THEY DID SUGGEST SHELTER. I FIND IT DIFFICULT TO CONCENTRATE ON FINANCIAL MATTERS NOW AND FEEL THAT I BADLY NEED GUIDANCE/HELP I'M BEGGING YOU FOR SOME HELP. I REALISE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON GOING TYHROUGH THIS SITUATION BUT. EVEN MEMBERS OF STAFF ARE BEING CAUGHT UP IN THIS PREDICAMENT.

It should be made illegal for banks to persue the owners for a remaining mortgage balance after a re-possed property has been sold at auction for a below market price. The bank negotiated an interest rate commensurate with the risk at the start of the contract. So how can they then be justified in persuing customers for the balance of the mortgage.

In the current circumstances the law allows them to record the debt still owed after repossession as part of their assets and they can therefore re-posess properties without loosing a penny.

If this was made illegal, then they would have every incentive to negotiate a temporary affordable rental with the tenant. Title of the house could pass to the bank during this time and the tenant given a right of residence, until they could re-mortgage or sell the property at it's market value.

I believe that this would result in less impact on society such as emergency accommodation from councils, less social security benefits which we all pay for etc.

Tenants would be grateful for support and probably loyal customers of the bank in the future.

for my 40th birthday i was appearing in court .because gmac my caring mortgage company have increased my payments from 5.4% to 8.9% a increase of £300 per mouth. the judge was as shocked aswe arebut couldnt help so me my husband and two children will be homeless for christmas so glad we have worked all our adult lives whats the point.......

i would just like to say i have learned a lot from watching this show, it has helped me and my husband to face up to our debts we are in a position like the family who where on the show, we bought our home for £28500 in 2001 my hubbys employer went bankrupt and my hubby was left without a job so we had to re-mortgage which has then spirreled out of control we now owe £145k our property is only worth £80-90k we are in a positon of losing our home where we have brought our two children up for the past 7years

EXAGGERATION - EXAGGERATION - EXAGGERATION. Why is it the media thinks it has the right

to scare the living daylights out of the public, I know because they cannot think of anything else to

put on TV except a host of repeats and boredom. interest rates are at an incredible low compared to the early 90s

which with the huge unearnt salary's people are lucky enough to get should think themselves lucky and

maybe save some of this money instead of only wanting the best most of the time.

Having watched tonight's report on the repossession rate I cannot believe that the lady who was interviewed about the charges that people are having to pay banks/building societies for financial advice could be so smug. This is why people get into difficulty. How on earth can this be justified. It is always the same banks/building societies are your best friend when you have money and then quickly turn their backs on people when difficulties arise!!! Our grandparents keeping money under the mattress had the right idea.....

The documentary failed to point out a couple of important things which most people seem to be unaware of. The first and perhaps the most surprising thing is that banks don't have the money they lend. The principal of any loan is created by the bank upon the loan's provision. The banks literally create the money they lend and charge us for the convenience (or inconvenience). As the loan is repaid the principal is cancelled so, when the loan is finished, all the bank is left with is the interest we've paid on it. So, my first point is that the practice of money-lending-at-interest is fundamentally fraudulent.

Why should the super rich bank owners be allowed to create money out of nothing while the rest of us spend most of our lives in varying degrees of misery working to pay off this unnecessary burden? It is unnecessary because a state owned bank could quite easily lend people money without charging interest at all, merely a loan charge to cover the cost of running the bank. Not only that but the government could create its own loan money without having to pay any interest to itself. Think how much lower our taxes would be. Yet politicians never do this obvious thing or even talk about it. They tinker with taxes or tinker with interest rates and argue over trifles and yet the private banks have the real power because they create the actual volume of the nation's money.

The second thing that most media commentators seem to be unaware of is that the volume of the country's debt IS the volume of the country's money. According to Jeff Randall our total debt is 1.4 trillion pounds. This is also the size of our money supply because the only money in circulation is borrowed money. If the amount of debt was reduced our money supply would shrink by the same amount and there'd be a recession. As debts are paid off, loan money is cancelled and so the money supply shrinks. In this crazy financial system reducing debt is actually bad for the economy. Indeed, if all debts were repaid there would be no money in circulation at all, which is why it's impossible.

Criticising the banks for over-lending or customers for over-borrowing misses the more important questions of how our money is created and who should create it? Elected officials who can be voted out or private bankers who can't be voted out? For those wishing to look further into this subject I recommend two excellent documentaries which can be found quite easily on-line. These are Money As Debt by Paul Grignon and The Money Masters by Bill Still.
