Yes, I support the strike because not only do I find the level of pay disproportionate for the job I and my collegues do. I frequently feel frustration at how quick both government and industries in the public sector are to criticize standards of education and yet they value us so little. It has been broadcast that the average pay for a teacher is in the region of £33.000 p.a; however, I after eight years still do not earn that much despite rising to the upper payscale. The fact is that the maximum that a classroom teacher can earn is in the region of £40.000 p.a. It is therefore no surprise to me that younger teachers after studying for four years saddled with university debts leave the profession. Perhaps those in government need to be reminded of the fact that the teaching profession is fundermental to success of future generations.
teachers...

well i'm definatly not on the teachers side

teachers strike

It is especially difficult with working Parents finding minders for their children while the teachers strike.
I've been teaching for 11 years and I've worked in a range of other professions including packing and operating machinery on the factory floor and I can truly say that I have never worked so many hours in any other job as I do in teaching! I clock up on average 50-60 hours per week and work through almost all the 'loads of holidays' I alledgedly get! If we were paid by the hour, the government wouldn't be able to afford us!

Parents have a very naive and negative view of the teaching profession: 13 weeks holiday a year, 9 till 3 job with an hour lunch hour, etc, etc, etc, but the attitude that annoys me the most is the view that school is unpaid childcare! Every year I ask children why they are at school and apart from the blank faces that I see, the most popular response given by 10-11yr olds is, "so mum and dad can go to work." No wonder they have no sense of what they should be hoping to achieve during their education (a subject for another post perhaps).

Every other profession, except teaching and the medical profession, have the right to make a stand over work-related issues. Sadly, instead of the parent's recognising that the vast majority of teachers want to improve the quality of teaching and learning for their children and supporting them, they gripe and moan because for them it simply means that it will be inconvenient! How dare teachers force parents to take responsibility for their children for a day? !!!!

teachers Strike

I was watching the interview a teacher and when she said she did not have enough money to take her children on holiday during the annual holidays as it was so expensive. She should think herself lucky that she earns £32,000 a year. That sum is more than what both my wife and i earn together. it has been almost 18 months since i myself had any pay rise. I earn less than £12,000 per year and taking holidays is the last thing on my mind.

Teachers Strike

I find it difficlut to accept the level of disruption to families and businesses caused by this strike. It seems that in looking for a higher pay settlement they are ignoring the fact that they are among the lucky few with a guaranteed pension to follow at 65 paid for by the tax payer. May of those not in public sector employment would like such a penison. Instead there are many burdened with tax liabilities that have been told that they may have to limit their expections and work to 70+ whilst funding these peoples pension pots.

Whilst I can understand that money today is important, money for a comfortable retirement should be more highly valued by these lucky people! By all means try negotiating a better deal but do we who pay your salaries and pensions deserve to be penalised further by strike action?

Teachers' Strike

18:30 News

She is a mother to my grandchildren so that is another job she has. The teachers deserve all the help they can get, they work hard for the future of our next generation. The school my daughter law teaches at recently received an 'outstanding' Ofsted report, by no means an easy thing to get - it doesnt just happen but is due to the untiring effort the teachers put into making learning and living a wonderful experience. The government dont seem to worry about awarding themselves decent pay rises so why not the teachers, at least they deserve it!!! Thankyou
