I'm not sure what this is doing on the LW thread (other than the LWs were big supporters of Adam Lambert) which is probably why I missed it before but, hell, no, the result was the biggest joke in the history of these shows. It even beat Leon Jackson beating Rhydian Roberts for ridiculousness.

Donal's improvement was commendable but I still think the winner should be the best contestant at the end of the series regardless of their level at the start. I mean, if the judges had voted Donal out in the first skate-off, he would never have had the chance to make that improvement.

The general opinion amongst people I know who watch the show is that they thought Maria can hold a tune, that's about it. No originality, little personality, a not very pleasant voice and little appeal of any other sort.

Why were Maria's fans and Maria herself so duped into thinking she was in with a chance?
One of the most mediocre contestants I have seen in any of these talent shows (particularly when you consider she's no spring chicken and has years of performing and recording experience) and certainly the most over-rated.
Good riddance ...
