    Hair colour help

I have been colouring my hair with a well known colour (the same as the one davina mccall uses) and because it's a darkish reddish shade, the grey in my hair tends to show up more frequently. I colour every 4-6 weeks but would like to have highlights put in, but don't know if that can be done. A hairdresser i used to go to told me that you have to grow the shop bought colour out before i could get professional highlights. I have used the shop bought highlights but they don't last any longer than the colour itself.

Does anyone know, is it possible to have a colourist put in highlights over shop bought colour?

    Hair colour help

I've recently had my hair highlighted after dyeing it dark, the best thing to do is leave it a few weeks and wash your hair often to fade the dye a bit, before i had my highlights i was told by my hairdresser to use a really cheapy shampoo that wasn't for coloured hair to fade the colour quicker so my highlights came out better!
Also i've recently read in a mag that a well known anti dandruff shampoo is often used by hairdressers to strip hair colour. It wasn't allowed to state which shampoo it was coz it was in the section where people write in with beauty questions, the woman was asking something about how her hair colour always fades too quick.....she was using an anti dandruff shampoo and this was the problem!

I'd had a lot of dye on so they used 2 different blondes for the highlights and a toner but they came out lovely....they were a caramel type colour at first but i've had 3 sets of highlights done now and it's looking really blonde now!

    Re: Hair colour help

Yes of course you can do that they obviously didnt want you to do that so they could do all your hair and get more money, all hairdressers hate shop colours, as i worked in a salon, my boss hated shop colours. just be carefull what colours you use with dark colours. Smile

    Re: Hair colour help

    Hi,

just looking for a bit of support. I'm naturally blonde and have just decided to dye my hair dark blonde - at least thats what it said on the packet but its gone a really disgusting dark grey / dark brown mess. I panicked and bought a really light blonde and dyed it the next day and its just made it a fraction lighter and looks a complete mess. I haven't slept for 2 nights (I'm writing this at 4.30 in the morning) and I know its only hair but I can't stop panicking about it and am just looking for any advise on what to do now. I'm panicking about having to go out with the children and anyone seeing me, oh and I'm paranoid about my hair falling out! All in all its a complete disaster and have no idea what to do now. Please help!!!!

hi beth, if i was you i would pop into the hairdressers and ask them to tone it for you, dont put on any more lightner, ....is it permanent,if not wash it often with a deep conditioner every time, i messed up once but each time i washed it ,it faded a little, maybe tie it back so its less noticiable, but probably you feel its worse than it actually is.... good luck hun,x kendra.
