    Ant & Dec

I was watching Ant and Dec last night and I was shocked and disgusted by there cheap jibe at Northern Rock in one of their sketches They call themselves Geordies and are supposed to be proud of the North East and should be supporting a company which has 6500 local workers who are worried about there jobs and who invest in many local charities My daughters fiancee is one of them I have always liked the boys and their show but I wont be watching them in future after trying to get cheap laughs at the expense of the region that made them By the way I am not the only one that thinks along these lines as the local paper  the Sunday Sun (perhaps the boys might remember it !!) has many quotes from irate viewers

I too was really disappointed in the boys cheap joke! I have always loved Ant and Dec since i was a teeny bopper and I too watch all of there shows. I thought they had done the North East proud until last night! I am an employee of Northern Rock and was really disappointed that Ant & Dec did not support us....there have been many other local celebraties and sports groups that have shown there support...Dec just mocked us and the region that he seems to forget made him famous!! I really have lost all respect for them and I too will not be watching there show next week!! You've really let us down lads!

    Re: Ant & Dec

It was a critical lack of judgement on the behalf of them and their management team. I suspect that, out of the six thousand plus local workers at Northern Rock, the vast majority of them, like the rest of the North East, have a good sense of humour and will laugh off this weekend’s comments from those “cheeky Geordie boys”. They have more important things to worry about, after all. I, on the other hand, am a cantankerous miserable old git who is less forgiving to these two men (they’re not lads anymore). They have enjoyed the support of the people of the North East for a long time and they have used their heritage, in combination with their undeniable talent, to achieve great success. Success at what cost though? To be kicked when you’re already on the ground hurts. To find out that the person kicking you is ‘family’ is simply devastating and disappointing. I will go quietly back to supporting the numerous friends at Northern Rock who are fearful of their jobs. In combination, if I have any time left over, I will make my feelings known about two men who should have really known better.

    Re: Ant & Dec

I was initially, naively, thinking that Dec was going to do a supporting sketch for Northern Rock.  It came as quite a shock to realise just how wrong I was.  I have always enjoyed watching Ant and Dec as they are amongst the many public personalities who make me proud to be a Geordie.  That has changed now as i doubt I will watch them again, they disgust me.  The Northern Rock is an amazing local institution - as a major employer, as a direct supporter of our local sports teams but most importantly as the backing for the Northern Rock Foundation.   The Foundation has provided support for all manner of North East charitable activity  as well as support for some of our more iconic and nationally significant developments.  The Sage, the Children's Book Centre and many more.  The Bank and the Foundation have over the years done their bid to help put the pride back into our region which has suffered greatly during the 1900's from the lose of our traditions industries and all of the ensuing deprivation this has caused.  Back to those two sons of the north who have benefited from being seen as cannie Geordie lads.  Well, as someone else has already said, they are not lads they are grown men and they should have known better.  If this is the cruel path their humour  has taken they they are not   and act i want to watch.  They should take a leaf out of the book of a pensioner I know who was going to open an account with Northern Rock on Friday.  She wanted to show her support for the bank because the Foundation had given her luncheon club some funding several years ago.  Unlike younger memories hers was not too short to remember who had helped her in the past!

    Re: Ant & Dec

Ant and Dec are twice as important as those 6500 local workers. So go and complain about something else. Those lads are one of our nations gratest treasures and we shouldn't say anything bad about them, i'm a celeb won't be the same without them!Zip it!

    Re: Ant & Dec

I totally agree. It was a joke!!!!!!!  Not something to be taken seriously. Ant and Dec having a bit of fun and JOKING around isnt going to affect anything that is going on at Northern Rock.

Im sure they are going to be really concerned at a few saddows who are touchy and insecure about themselves!!!! " href="BLOCKED SCRIPTinsertSmiley('[:\'(]');">
