Fellow skaters ,want to share your experiences ?

    Hi,

I've been skating since April 2007 and have been a Galaxy Glider since May 2007.

On paper I'm at Level 3 but I've done the requirements that needed completing to get to level 5 I just need to get the form updated.

I like the challenge of learning new things and am always first to try something new.

I'm one of the more senior members of the class  at 40 but age isn't a boundary if you really want to do something.

Morning skating sessions seem to be the best time if you want to practice without having to constantly lookout for others on a public skate.

I regularly cycle to work during the summer months and have approaching 500 miles clocked up in the last couple of years so this helped my fitness level.

When the weather does allow cycling I do have a number of gym equipment that I use to stay fit without bulking out as it is too easy with home gyms.

In my late teens I used to do a lot of roller-skating (quads) and I must admit I didn't find it too difficult the first time on the ice to skate.

Do you skate ? If so is it just recreational skating ? or are you either learning Figure skating or have you progressed to competing ?

I thought it might be interesting to talk about our experiences. I'm sure there are difference elements that some find difficult while other them easy .

For instance I was finding forward outside edges difficult to learn for a while ,which wasn't helped by the shallow edges on my standard blades that came fitted to my boots. But despite this I've really got the hang of them now. Though when I next skate I've got some new MK blades to adjust to. And the edges on them are far better than the old ones ever were even when freshly sharpened.

I know of one other skater who had completed level 10 a couple of months ago who was on another of the ITV forums but I guess there are others.

Last time a couple of others said they skated on here so maybe we can exchange experiences.

    Hi Dee,

I'm currently skating twice a week. My lesson is on Monday nights and of the separate groups in the 7.30 - 8PM slot I'm now in the top group.

On paper I had level 4 with one element needed for level 5 but MK lost my progress booklet over a month ago and they don't have any more.

I'd love to do a couple mornings during the week but work doesn't allow for it.

But I enjoy every moment  of it. The top group is now providing new challenges almost every week. I started the Gliders lessons in May ,I think .

If you've read the other thread you'll seen I'm one of the older skaters but still learning all the time and proving that age is no barrier.

Yes you were very lucky to have a lesson with Dan.

One thing I'm always on the lookout for is skating TV coverage .Last Saturday I was lucky to find the direct satellite link for the Skate Canada event and now have 6 hours of it to watch. But as it clashed with the other live show on Eurosport I missed that bit. I also missed the report of the satellite link on Sunday for the Stake USA Gala until long after it had finished.

I sometimes wish I'd started learning after my first encounter with skating when I was 14 but without a really local rink I don't think it would have happened even if I'd wanted to. I have a round trip of around 50 - 55 miles each time travelling to MK.
