    supermarket monopolies

why dont we have a system in this country where u can only buy tobacco from specialist shops like in france also things like newspapers should only be available at newsagents supermarkets are getting to sell more products all the time this is forcing small businesses to close it is high time the goverment did something about it.

Aaah, that is because the UK Government never owned the tobacco industry, unlike in France, where it was a state monopoly.  In many countries where there is a state control over the distribution of certain products, like cigarettes, you'll just find "entrepreneurs" selling them on street corners, often fakes.  The only thing that "forces" small (or large) businesses to close is the lack of customers going through the door.

    Re: supermarket monopolies

Supermarkets have unfortunately done the antisocial thing of closing many of our high street shops.  There were several newsagents selling cigarettes in our town.  Now they've gone and I no longer visit our town except to go to the post office.  The high street looks like it was once a lively place.  People still shop there but the lack of grocers, greengrocers, butchers etc has meant others had to close.  We have about 20 charity shops in town and while I don't begrudge them their place they cost us all indirectly.

So I'd love to see a return of the old NewsConTab shops but I fear it will never be.
