    Hilda Ogden

My favourite Corrie character of all time was Hilda Ogden. Anyone remember her? Its been over 20 years since she left. I was very young then! However ive watched the Corrie DVD's and there were some really classic scenes with her and Stan.

I wish Hilda would return to the show, even if it was for a guest appearance.

    Re: Hilda Ogden

i agree i would like to see hilda back as she was one of my favorite characters i used to love watching her especially when she used to have a go at elsie tanner and ena sharples they were all great together in those scenes but what i really loved was when she used to sing while cleaning in the rovers and mrs walker would come out and look at her with that famous glare she had when she did not approve but the most memeorable scene to me was when stan died and she picked up his belongings from the hospital and found his glasses  and broke down holding them i really felt for her at that moment she done it so well you could feel the pain with her she was a good actress and it has not been the same without her.

I agree. The scene with Hilda after Stan's funeral where she broke down and cried into his glasses case was one of the saddest Corrie moments ever.

Nice idea but it wouldn't happen would it?  The cast is getting younger not older.  And when older characters are brought in they're soon written out again - remember Rita's friend Doreen?  Then there were the three ex-hubbies of Angela (Keith Barron among them)?  And what about the Morton's grandfather.  All these characters have disappeared almost as soon as they appeared.

    Re: Hilda Ogden

Very true. Its only the long term older chracters like Rita, Emily and Betty that are still there and we hardly see them, especially Emily. Betty does more than her!

    Re: Hilda Ogden

Ah yes - Emily Bishop and Leslie Philips separated at birth.  Smile  Someone once suggested bringing back Spider (Emily's nephew) so as to give Emily more of a role but why should her role revolve around her nephew?

I don't think we'd see as much of Rita were it not for her double act with Norris.  As for Betty surely now (with the Rovers being so short-staffed (with no Lauren, no Michelle and no Vernon (for what use he was behind the bar!)), would be the ideal time to re-recruit her?

And talking of Betty... good to see her back in last night's episode for one of her rare scenes.

True!  But Betty was in 2 episodes this week which is more than Emily has been in the last 2 months!

    Re: Hilda Ogden

Aye it seems as though Emily's in semi-retirement.  Couldn't they retire David, Liz, Steve, Jason, Becky and Tina?

Hilda was my favourite character too. I always smile to myself when I see ladies with lipstick that is just painted on the middle of their lips and not the corners, just like our Hilda use to do. I also liked Curly, I thought he was good and Peter Barlow too.

Too much airtime given to both of them imo.  Good to see Emily's back though.

Wasn't Curly (i.e. Kevin Kennedy) presenting an award at the soap awards recently?  Curly was one of my favourite characters too.  Pity he doesn't come back into the programme.

    Re: Hilda Ogden

Hmm well I think Becky and Tina have the right amount of airtime currently. They arent so much "in your face" as other characters have been in the past. Tina was away for quite a few weeks I think before visiting David in prison, and then was in 3 episodes last week I think.

Yes Kevin Kennedy presented the lifetime achievement award to Liz Dawn at the soap awards a few weeks ago.
