    Hamilton flying in Turkey

how can that be?? practice hasn't started yet Confused

well, i'm not referring to his car or his driving. no, i'm referring to his ridiculous 'cameo appearance' at a local Istanbul theatre production of Troy.

what has that got to do with cars ... F1 ... racing ... sport in general?????

i think i'm beginning to get the picture...........hamilton just wants to be in the public eye - at any costs it seems.

well, firstly, i don't think i have ever been guilty of 'bashing' hamilton on here.

the point i was trying to make is when i go onto an F1 site and get a chance to look at the 'latest pictures from Turkey' i don't expect to see ANY driver flying around a stage, looking most unhappy i might add, in his F1 coveralls.

i chose to watch Mr and Mrs and i knew the deal before hand.

whoever was in the gorilla suit, i'm sure, wasn't doing it for the publicity (maybe trying to escape publicity??)

Hamilton can support whichever causes he wants but this does appear to me to reek of desperation.......

    Re: Hamilton flying in Turkey

The fact that he was kitted out in his driversuits would imly he was doing it for sponsership contractial reasons, i dont think on a normal day Lewis would agree to be strapped up by the groins and expose all his glory!

It was all over the Tv, everyone was saying how uncomfortable he looked, I have to say I nearly felt sorry for him, and it was to do with a sponsor, I can't imagine anyone volunteering for that otherwise Big Smile

    Re: Hamilton flying in Turkey

I have to say that last season I was thrilled to have such a young, British, talent to support but now I am starting to feel rather sorry for him.  Yes he has lots of money, fast cars blah blah but his McLaen is letting him down, he is getting bashed from pillar to post on this forum by many (you all know who you are and shame on you, he is a young guy trying to get ahead in a competitive sport) and now his sponsors and team are adding fuel to the fire and sailing him up the river by turning him into a marrionette!

In addition to those who keep kicking this kid, his team and sponsors should be ashamed.  They are milking his image for every last penny and turning many against him in the process.  One question I have (please forgive the comparisons) - Can anyone recall Tiger Woods doing any overhyped publicity stunts before he won anything significant?

Hmmmm, Interesting post, I'm one of his "bashers" I dont feel any of the shame you apparently wish upon me, yes he's a young guy trying to get ahead in a competitive sport, he's also (in my opinion at least) an arrogant young guy trying to get ahead in a competitive sport. He never seems to miss an opportunity to rub people up the wrong way, now why is that do you think ? Are every single one of these thousands of people who dislike him for his attitude wrong ?, do they each misinterpret all of his words ?, were they all, every single one of them, wrong to be offended by his "monkeys" comment ? I think not. He's developed a reputation for being arrogant, people haven't just plucked that out of thin air. People keep kicking him because in their opinion (and there's quite a few of them) he keeps coming out with inane arrogant comments, what makes it worse is as you correctly point out, he hasn't won anything significant yet!!.

As to the other part of your post, I actually agree with you, McLaren and Vodaphone are milking him for all he's worth, but, as they say, he who pays the piper calls the tune. One news agency is widely reporting that this "publicity stunt" has backfired badly, Max Clifford said... "He comes across like a performing puppet,"

Which of course, isn't to far from your "marrionette" comment. It's often said that the British media build people up only to knock them down again, I think they've started.

If I were Hamilton, I'd be looking to employ a good PR company, because it's plainly obvious, he's at least in some part being guided badly, young he may be, but he's old enough live on his own, to build up a fabulous career, to travel the world etc etc, he'd old enough to know when his image is being used to poor effect, but then, perhaps he thinks the moneys worth it ?.

Stigga, I agree completely. I did not 'wish' shame upon you, rather suggested that those jumping on the 'kick Hamilton' bandwagon should be a little more introspective and think about whether he is any more arrogant than the other drivers, or whether we just hear more of his 'arrogant' comments than the others because the British media focus most of their coverage on him?

We all keep complaining about two things; 1. ITV focus too much pre/post race analysis on him, and 2. He comes across as arrogant.  I would suggest without point 1, point 2 would be significantly less noticable and we would all accept the odd sponsor stunt.

PS To me, Hamilton flying is much more acceptable than Schumi driving a FIAT delivery van!

Laugh about it for years to come ? are you so sure ? I'd suggest you do a little more research, in his own words Hamilton has said...

"Let's forget about that," he told reporters at Istanbul Park on Friday. "Afterwards I thought, 'That really was not cool'.

"I just turned up and got on with what I'd been told to do. Now I've seen the footage and it's one of the worst things I've seen.

"I have a cool image and things like that don't help,"
Hamilton said  (My Bold, for emphasis)

Hours earlier, he'd said "It was a pretty cool thing to do"

    He contradicts himself once more...

Well, on the subject of Hamilton being any more arrogant than the other drivers, I can't think of another current one that has attracted the same label, can you ? people use to say Schumey was arrogant, and though I couldn't stand the bloke, I wouldn't have described him as arrogant.

I do agree with your second paragraph, perhaps if he hadn't been "shoved down our throats" at every opportunity, things might be a tad different, but then I still believe his own comments go some way to justifying peoples dislike of him, It would though be less noticeable were he given less coverage.

No, I'd rather see Schumey driving a van, at least it's remotely connected to his driving career. Smile

    Re: Hamilton flying in Turkey

    Stigga I agree with you.

Athought, I am not sure if Hamilton sometimes understand what he is saying. I think years of life at Mclaren has had its benefits, but unfortunately has taken away that element of social skill or likeability factor (for me).

For example in his own words:

"I just turned up and got on with what I'd been told to do. Now I've seen the footage and it's one of the worst things I've seen.

He could have easily said "it was wrong or he has made a mistake" but in the first part of his comment he blamed it on someone else made him do it, and at the end he suggested "the worst things I've seen". sounds like someone else had done it!

I am really not a Hamilton basher, I just can't have a positive feeling towards him, despite being a Mclaren fan.
