Why havent we got a circuit in Finland?

Does anyone think we should have a Finnish track? After all we have had some of the best drivers in F1 from Finland, and they contribute and feature literally season to season in F1. They are great racers on a whole and not just in F1. Now we have two Finnish drivers in two top teams and one is a WDC...why havent we got a track in Finland?

Cos it's damn cold in Finland. Cant really see slick bridgestones with chains on them bearing in mind that Finland is covered in snow from December to April and in summertime you will be lucky if it hits a balmy 17 degrees!  Daresay that might be why Big Smile

Well that has to be why, some have suggested an F1 race in the snow before, it would be an interesting race I must say lol. I am sure Finland has warm winters though, if there ever was a new circuit to build and try out, location, time zone and reasoning for one, it has to be Finland.

Now there is a thought - lets have a Finish GP where its cold and the track has been gritted if its snowy. Now that would be interesting to see how F1 cars would cope.

Err, yes. As exciting as stars on ice or fish out of water... What's next? Hill racing? Rally in F1 cars? Let's see how they would cope? The cars were struggling at 18 C in Turkey, get real.

But I am sure that the finnish crowds would be fabulous. Fins are great sports.

The only great driver to come from Finland was Mika, but alas, he is no longer racing in F1...

Heikki is an excellent driver, but he's behind Hamilton on a number of fronts... he's close but has no cigar...

Re: Why havent we got a circuit in Finland?

I seem to recall that the German Touring Cars went to Finland a few years ago for a street race, can't remember a great deal about it but the weather seemed OK to me.  A Finnish summer can't possibly be as bad as the 2000 Brit GP in April - that was not a pleasant experience! Maybe that's why it's never been run in April again.

I think it was early last year Nick Heidfeld drove his BMW F1 on snow in Switzerland.

A whole race though? Imagine the first corner pile up.

Thanks to global warming we have two seasons anymore: Autumn that last from September to April and summer that lasts from May to August. No winter..for example I was playing golf at February which were the coldest month last 'winter'.  Summers aren't hot, but getting warmer; it's very rare that there are over +25c (77 fahrenheit) at early May.. mid July is when there's hot here..

    ----

We could have night race at summer when sun doesn't go away even when it's middle of the night.

Well I don't know how different the Swedish and Finnish climates are - I guess Sweden is a bit warmer esp in the South? - but there used to be a Swedish grand prix but they were stopped ages ago apparently.

Wow no snow in February in Finland, global warming as gone madIndifferent

Sad to hear actually, one place in the world where people respect the enviroment are those Scandinavian countries. To be honest I remember thick snow in England that lasted for weeks as a child, now we get something that resembles a *** of snow for 3 hours first thing in the morning, which turns to dirty slush by the afternoon and that is your lot!

Didn't know how to feel when watching news where they had HUGE amount of snow in Greece..they had more snow this winter than we did.
