I live in Hull too.I think the show made it look like Beirut-really bad. It'll soon be forgotten about.Even our local news though sometimes it does look really rough you have to admit.

I come from Hull originally, live in nottingham now and I visit Hull regularly. Hull is a great place, beautiful old buildings, lots of history . William Wilberforce came from there and he helped abolish slavery .Please don't let the one stupid little programme perturb you.! The Duchess of York was sent there as a publicity stunt, it must have been as I didn't  see the point to the programme .Most of preston road folk live decent lives , work for a living, and eat sensibly , You should live here dear and see the ignorance and obesity that I  have  witnessed since moving here,I grew up around Preston road and its no different to other areas that have been deprived of investment for too many years. Hull was a forgotten City when I left 38 yrs ago. we left to find work .I miss the friendliness of the people and the down to earth attitude, the Yorkies have. I for one tell the people I meet that criticise Hull over the  programme. Live there you will find its a great place. After all it once was a kings town. Hence the name KINGSTON-UPON -HULL.

there is nothing wrong with hull and i wish i had never moved from hull to leicester i would go back like a shot but lack of work there stops me. totally agree the show made it worse than what it is my children live in hull, my daughter lives on preston road, her kids go to a decent school. there is so many decent people in hull. it is the minority that gives it a bad name like any where else in the country. they are down to earth people

I am not from Hull, but lived there. I met some lovely local people and I don't think they intended to portray a poor image of Hull. I think the Duchess of York wanted to help people. I like her, she tries to use her status to make a significant difference for others. Watching the documentary regarding people in other countries, such as Turkey who had learning difficulties shows how better off we are compared to some countries. However,  I am not disputing things could be better here. Internalised bullying in the working environment, egoism and abuse all exist within our society. Neverthless, the last time we were healthy was World War II. If anyone reads this and http://www.the-gi-diet.org/ clicks onto the GI Diet Plan this is a great education tool on eating properly without the expense. Furthermore, people who are obese are prone to further medical problems, but this could be prevented.

God bless Duchess of York and like Diana continue to be a positive ambassador to the nation. I watched your daughter discuss how her friends did not seem to understand the reason of her visit to Turkey etc. It is difficult being borm into a privelidged society where expectations are met. Friends who have no concept of abject poverty I think do not intend to be so ignorant. Maybe if they lived on a commoner's wage for a few weeks they would probably understand how lucky they are to be born into a privelidged environment. Nevertheless, they have great expectations placed on them too and money isn't always everything.
