    Stage 21

Forgive my ignorance, but why does nobody make an effort in the final stage? Surely 143km is enough to make up a minute or two that some of the riders would require if they really went for it...

    No forgivness required.

Traditionally the Yellow Jersey is not attacked on the last stage, it is a time to celebrate the win. The final 8 laps in Paris are where the attacks come for the Teams with sprinters. Or just possibley, every now and again, a win for a succesful break away.

    Simply tradition I fear.

But it could have to do with having ridden 3500 kms and being a bit tired too.

Like Lemond perhaps one year someone who really wants it will break the unwritten rule and go for it.

Problem is 8 laps of the Champs Elysee. Probably the best you will get is 1 lap lead and the teams will seriously chase that down. So who knows.
